Update!

I forgot to upload this a while ago - I kitted out Julip Tamarind in matching gear. Clearly not as detailed as the drawing but it was put together in about ten minutes, so...

I'm collaborating with , and for Hidden Valley Equestrian's 'Ride For Life' race appaloosamaniac.deviantart.com… and seeing as Tatty had already done a costume, I thought I'd give it a go too. I couldn't think of a decent slogan so for now 'Ride For Life' will have to do. XD I was up til five this morning doing this until I finally crawled into bed and finished it off this afternoon. I'm rather pleased with it though, well worth the lack of sleep!

Tam is none to chuffed with the colour choice (even though it's not that far away from his usual shade of purple) and you just know that those ribbons and bows won't last the race. Whoever suggested glittery hoof oil is probably nursing a broken foot by now too...

Tack List:

Dutch Gag (on the snaffle ring normally - if he starts acting up before the race, he'll go with double reins on the next ring down) bridle with 'blingin' pink diamante encrusted browband. He also wears a matching crocheted ear cover/veil thing with some diamantes sewn onto the edge to further his embarrassment.

Mane is braided in the continental style, on the right side of his neck but he has so much mane that it might be possible to do it on both sides. His forelock is braided up backwards and after Tam ripped a hole in the ear cover when being tacked up, David stuffed his forelock through it to make the best of it. XP His tail has been left mostly natural (more to save whoever groomed him from getting kicked than anything else) but he models a massive pink bow around the top of his tail and a couple of smaller ones plaited into the hair further down.

GP leather saddle with purpley pink saddlecloth with padded heart motifs and more bling around the edges. He also wears a breastplate - an old one that had been lurking in the tack room unclaimed for years - that has been customised with matching pink tassels all the way round.

Pink bandages support his legs which are finished off with a few generous layers of sparkly pink hoof oil.

David wears a pink 'Ride for Life' fitted tshirt and traditional buff coloured breeches with long boots and matching fingerless gloves. He has somehow managed to get out of wearing quite as much pink as his horse.

David would like to point out that the only items he owns from this ensemble are the saddle and bridle - the rest were bought or borrowed specially.

Where do I start?! That expression! My god, he looks royally ticked off XD and I love those pinned back purple ears (also a really cool touch that he ripped a hole in the bonnet, I love it when little things like that are mentioned in a stable). Next is that awesome lattice plait I love this style plait - Matches sadly doesn't have enough mane - but it looks great on Tam...even if he's not impressed in the slightest

Love the assortment of hearts and diamantes everywhere; they really bring out his eyes but those bows in his tail and those hooves are EPIC! Just fantastic! I can see him leaving a trail of ribbons all the way along the ride - rubbing against all the trees he can to get rid of them XD.

David does seem to have avoided the worst of it XD, and Ride for Life is as good a slogan as any This looks great, all in all. We've just got to con Anna and Nev into doing one

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 18:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Heh, that's more or less his default expression - especially when 'work' is involved.

Same! It makes it that much more realistic I've found! I keep meaning to plait his 'real' counterpart like that but it's just so fiddly in such a small scale!

It's everything I wouldn't ever put anywhere near my own horse if I had one - waaaaaay too girly. XD

Hahaha oh yes, they have to now!

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 19:03:32 +0000 UTC]

Lol, grouchy ponies

And tell me about it! I get nowhere with plaiting my Julip, but I did manage to get a really intricate tail plait into an ancient Barbie horse. It was just big enough, I think XD

And that's exactly the same as me! (how are we only just talking?) I hate that kind of girl stuff. I'm not a fan of pink, to be honest. The only shade I can stand is the dusky sort of one on Matches. I couldn't force myself to do hearts, too - so kudos to you

We'll take one each and nag

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 19:21:41 +0000 UTC]

I managed it on Ezio - pre mohair makeover but that involved tying lots of tiny, tiny little knots out of thread and I won't be repeating myself that way again. XD

Hahaha, I know! XD I don't mind that shade either - I can't stand anything verging on barbie or 'sugary' pink.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 19:26:17 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, definitely sounds fiddly. Though tiny knots sounds about right even if you're trying it on a real horse XD (though the actual horse may have had something to do with that)

Ditto - the overly vibrant, obnoxious pinks just bring out my mild homicidal tendencies

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 19:49:13 +0000 UTC]

I managed to find a photo! [link]
He now looks like this. XD [link] I might have better luck with the mohair, should I attempt it in future.

Hahaha, mild...sure. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 20:04:24 +0000 UTC]

Aww! That's a great attempt for the size he is! and yep, the mohair might make it easier (still really tiny knots, though XD)

Here's the plait I managed to get into a model's tail > [link] (Its a Barbie horse, and about the same scale as a Breyer Traditional. 1:9 I think...) Though I'd really like to put some little plaits into a model horse at some point, more like how they are in my latest picture of Aphie. That's just even more fiddly, though

And yes... Just mild...nothing too psychotic...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 20:08:45 +0000 UTC]

O____O

I can't even do that on a 1:1 horse! XD
If they're little ones it might be wise to plait the hair first, then glue it in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 20:21:09 +0000 UTC]

Lol; I wouldn't worry. It took me months to even work out the pattern - and that was with weekly lessons and practice sessions, since my college course was on horses. Even after I worked out how to do the plait it took me months more to be able to make it neat in any way.

Once I learned how, I got obsessed - and once you get the hang of the pattern - its dead easy. I was kicking myself. That one is a french braid, but following that I learned how to do french-dutch ones

And that's a neat idea...just not sure that letting me loose with modelling glue is the smartest thing in the world XD I'll see about plaiting it for real first and see how I go

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 20:28:57 +0000 UTC]

lol, I only ever got the chance to plait every few years when I was younger and helped out on holiday courses for the kids in the summer at my old yard. Even then I could just about manage the mane but always left the tail for someone else. XD

PVA ftw! If all else fails, I've got a video tutorial on how I rehair my Julips so you can't go wrong.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 20:37:19 +0000 UTC]

Until I started college I didn't get a single chance to plait. I pretty much had a crash course in the first two months so I could pass a turnout assessment XD. After I finally learned how, I was the opposite - do the tail and leave the mane for someone else I love lattice, running and rosette plaits, but the traditional toggle ones always drove me round the twist. I could do them okay, but one would always end up springing loose

And I agree. I love PVA And papier Mache (I have a papier mache really awful sculpture of Toothless from How to Train your Dragon somewhere around the house XD) Its so much fun!!

But if I do fail dismally, I'll definitely come your way and see if your tutorial can help out ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 20:39:00 +0000 UTC]

I can't even draw them properly! XD

Eeeee, Toothless! *flails*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 20:46:30 +0000 UTC]

From what I've seen of your plaits, they look fine! I like drawing normal plaits, but I'm not really confident with drawing toggle plaits or french braids, either.

And you like Toothless, too? I swear, I saw the film and *died*. I want one. I'll have to dig him up and get some pictures for you

I love the bit where he's rolling around in the grass and chases the light reflections - whoever designed him MUST have a cat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 21:07:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes, yes!! And I adore when he watches Hiccup draw with a stick - then he goes and grabs half a tree to do his own drawing

I remember watching the bonus DVD and hearing the producers say that he's a combination of a lot of cat, a little bit of dog and some of the original Toothless, from the book series (since Night Furies only exist in the movie, that version is sort of a reincarnation). But I can imagine the producer sitting home and watching his cat chase a laser light around right before he has a light bulb moment

Indeed. ;D My cousins and I grew up with it as a massive part of our lives and it still influences us to this day. (as well as giving us an excuse to dress up in silly costumes and make films XD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 22:50:57 +0000 UTC]

Same I remember - very vaguely - a time I didn't know what it was, and my cousin gave me Chamber of Secrets to read (he was raving about it at this point). So I read the second book first, got hooked, and then started reading in the right order. My cousin isn't as obsessive as me now - I bypassed him years back XD - but ever since then, its been a solid part of my childhood and is still there now that I've (supposedly) grown up

So I'm all on board with the silly costumes and random trivia quizzes and playing quidditch in my nan's garden using golf balls and the spare mop . Then I went to visit Levesdon where they filmed it with my family back in 2003 and met the anamatronic Buckbeak and ever since then owning a Hippogriff has been a long term goal of mine

When we were nine or ten we made 'Murder on the Hogwarts Express', complete with a ghostly voice courtesy of Kathryn's 'TalkBoy' (remember those? XD) and all sorts. We've been looking for the cassette for years as we want to get it converted and stuck up on youtube with the others. XD

YOU MET BUCKBEAK?! Fffffffff. *implodes*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 23:11:09 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, that sounds incredibly cool!! *is envious* XD I went to school in an old manor house/estate in the middle of nowhere, and when I was in year 11, it was our turn to host the halloween party for the girls who boarded. We basically decorated all the main corridors that students used to get around the school with all sorts of stuff, and we ran an entire cluedo evening with challenges in different rooms and a mystery to solve as one of the year 11s got 'murdered' every fifteen minutes It was the most amazing Halloween I can remember. (sorry, that was a random memory lane trip, there. The 'Murder on the Hogwarts Express' just reminded me)

And yep. I wrote to the studio because my sister was sick and a huge fan, and they let us visit. > [link] (that's Crookshanks) [link]

There's actually 4 Buckbeaks (each of them had every single feather placed by hand ) and they took a protective sheet off of one for us to see. I fell in love, I swear XD. Though my dad freaked when we walked past Aragog, and the basilisk head is downright chilling...

ElreniaGreenleaf In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-07-02 23:32:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow! Ours had a ridiculously complicated plot if I remember correctly. We (I was Ginny, Kathryn was Hermione and her sister Ailsa was Ron - go figure. XD) were on the Hogwarts Express en route home for the holidays when we heard a ghostly voice - 'Frail Freida' - telling us about a murder. We'd recorded the ghost's lines on the talkboy but left gaps so when we played it there was room for us to say our lines back to it. Very clever so we thought! Anyway, somehow we ended up going back in time to 1860something and had to solve the murder of one of Neville's ancestors. I can't for the life of me remember who did it in the end, only that there was a clip of us investigating the 'body' (a football and sticks covered in a blanket and covered in tomato ketchup) while the bin lorry came and reversed slowly into shot while we merrily carried on like it didn't exist. I think they actually stopped to watch for a bit. XD

Despite the three of us being tone deaf we like to dabble in song parodies... [link] (This made the front page of Mugglenet a wee while ago!)

LOL, what a grumpy looking cat! XD I never imagined Crooks as a persian personally. Still, you lucky ducks! And and and she got to sit on Dumbledore's seat?! *fall over*

I'm doing modelmaking for film and tv at college so you never know, maybe one day I'll be working there! (fat chance but hey XD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to ElreniaGreenleaf [2012-07-02 23:47:37 +0000 UTC]

That's incredible!! A girl playing Ron is just wonderful irony, really XD But that whole thing sounds like it was a blast! Especially with the bin lorry stopping to watch - and a body of sticks, ketchip and a football Best thing ever

And thank you so much for that link. More awesomeness!! What an epic song - I love your creativity there!

Crookshanks - I can't remember his real name - really does look grumpy XD. I'm not a fan of Persians, and I don't visualise him that way, but I do confess that breed does match up to his canon description pretty well. Grumpy as he looks, he was really cuddly XD I stood there with him for around ten minutes while we talked to the guy in charge of the animal department and he was just happy to be coddled And yep. She was quite bad at this point, but she was really thrilled she got to see the Great Hall and sit in the chair ^^. We were incredibly lucky, the whole day was amazing. The cast and crew were all so nice and welcoming.

Modelmaking at college sounds like a lot of work, but really rewarding. You won't be able to work at Levesdon, purely coz they've closed it down as a working studio. They've left the sets for HP (built over the last decade) standing and the whole thing's been turned into a museum of sorts that opened this year. But you have every chance of working with a special effects/anamatronics department for other movies! (I just hope you're not tasked to make anything like the blown up body suit for aunt Marge. Now that is...an experience XD
