Description Sculpted in Polymer Clay. I used colored polymer clay for everything with the exception of the small purple spots on the fish face and body which I painted with acrylic. The eyes, all other spots, and the stripes on his tail are made using different canes of blended colors. I enjoy making the canes. The fish is built over a chicken egg and rattles (I always like to put something inside the eggs to make noise). The little fish rider is about 1.5" sitting and was built over a wire armature. His face reminds me of a Hun. He is removable.
I have some detail shots that show his face and the fish face better in my scraps.
I like this little sculpt

OMG....I remember loving this sculpt.

Now here is the kicker....for the last two weeks on and off...(Due to flu)...I have been working on a fish in more of a style of Jules Verne with a rider.....And I wondered why when I started it...that it seemed familiar.....argh.....

Now to make it look very different.....

Aww, that little guy is so cute... I love his wristbands!
There's so much detail, it's beyond amazing... it must have taken forever!
What I like most is how the fish is all blues and purples, and the rider is all browns and greens, but you pull it all together with his blue hair. It makes him seem to belong there better.
Like I said, I can't believe all the detail.. and they both have such cute expressions.

This is the nicest comment, Thank You! I'm not sure how I arrive at the things I do when I make them, the clay and my hands tend to lead the way. It's like magic. Silly, I know, but that is how it seems, and all those little details take shape as I go along, weaving my way in and out until, finally - I am done! I only have one sculpt that I actually 'planned' and she didn't turn out like the drawing. LOL

How sweet! I love both of the faces and the colours on the fish are amazing. That's a great idea to put something inside the egg to make it rattle. I love it!

Aww! Thank you so much!
I've been wanting to sculpt something but my time is so limited with work right now. Guess that's why I pulled out the acrylics once again. Quick and satisfying.

Thank you! It would be fun to be able to ride a fish like that don't you think? (grin)
You know, canes aren't so bad once you figure them out. If you're interested I could give you some pointers

Clayprinter In reply to ElvinMoon [2005-09-30 15:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Would love pointers...I tried jelly rolls for awhile...looked really bad. I thought those were the eassy ones.

Some canes with a skinner blend just look awesome to me.

ElvinMoon In reply to Clayprinter [2005-09-30 21:42:23 +0000 UTC]

Qickie course for canes. Use a firm clay like Fimo or Kato Clay. Once you create the cane let it cool off before slicing. Make sure you use a very sharp blade to slice.
