Personality:

Impulsive and fiery, but with undertones of anxiety and abandonment issues. Fiercely loyal to her close friends and stupidly brave (will jump to save someone from drowning without knowing how to swim). She has a competitive spirit, and doesn’t have great reasoning ability.


History:

Born during the war, Raine’s early life was quite chaotic. Her mother was a deadbeat Guard with no real ambitions, leaving her father to raise her alone as soon as she was weaned. However, her father was a decently well-off Vigneron who cared very greatly for his daughter, and resented the fact that she had left them so. The experience of living with her ended up being quite traumatic, and he never took another partner. 

As Raine started growing up, and figuring things out, her father soon realized her aptitude for physical challenges. Her attention never did quite hook on the quiet work of growing grapes and making wine. She needed something more occupying and tactile. Something she could constantly work to get better at and climb the ranks. Thus, her passion for becoming a squire was born. Her father, while sad that she was leaving, knew ultimately that this would be the best career path for her. However, in her third year of age, when she was supposed to join the Guard as a Squire, an especially hard season struck the vineyard. The few farmhands they possessed had to leave for other jobs that could pay better, and she had to stay behind in order to help him with the harvest and juicing. But that year passed and the time came for her to leave. With one final goodbye, she left her father’s home and went to begin her career as a Guard. 

The first year was hard, but it ended up still having some fun moments. Raine’s competitive nature led her to succeed in friendly competitions in games that she and the other Squires participated in. But her favorite by far was when they sparred and locked antlers. She had grown quite an impressive set of antlers, and was quite unafraid to use them. But by the end of her training she felt on top of the world: she had two close friends and had passed through the squireship with flying colors, even though she was a little older. Her father came to the ceremony, and she was ready to go on.

Being a guard was a lot less fun than being a Squire, and the duties were certainly dull. Thus she was hoping to spend the minimum time required, but she would sometimes get distracted while cleaning the barracks to wrestle or knock heads a bit. The two times she got caught added onto her time as a guard. Raine got that message quickly. She didn’t get caught a third time. Soon enough though, she was promoted to a Colonel. At that time the Formaris Crisis happened; but it wasn’t much of a decision for Raine. She quite liked the way her world was, and worked with her Guards to assist Acetos in any way possible.

Four years later, a Lieutenant. She was 12 when she was promoted and spent the majority of the last year and a half getting a feel for the Austers she was commanding and a feel for the position. That is until the Nightmare came, Raine and her troops charged into battle, journeying to the island and fighting for it’s destruction. With the help of the Austerian Guard and the other tribes, they were able to take down the beast. 

With its demise, The Kingdom once again threw its Annual Winterspar. She loved running around at all the different stands and seeing all the different types of equines that came to participate. But when it was time for her to start jousting, that was where the real fun began. She performed well- better than she had ever done previously and Raine started knocking names off the list as she rose to the top. Somehow, she managed to win overall! Overjoyed and proud, she accepted the Winterspar Crown and was named victor by the queen. She had a good night chatting and making friends with royals who attended the Feast afterwards, as well as meeting a certain fellow....

After her stellar performance at the Joust, she was promoted to Brigadier. But the one problem with being a higher rank is you don't get out as much. She visited Judas a few more times after her promotion, eventually meeting him at a bar for drinks per his suggestion. She didn't quite know what to make of him... yet
