Well, I know their relationship isn't quite the same as a usual mother-son relationship, but I don't see it as a friendship or a sisterly relationship. I've always seen Twilight as motherly to Spike.

Well, tecnecally she's not wrong by logic of Twilight hatching Spike.

The most you can actually say from that context is she's a nursemaid. She did lay the egg and she didn't mate in some way with the father. Though she did raise him so there is that at least but this is purely on the assumption since we get to see nothing from his hatching up to ponyville.

That is not at all what I said, I said, Nursemaid, Nursemaid is not an adoptive mother. Either way, we need actual proof of her raising him which we still do not.

I prefer to go by the IDW comic. As it's the likely the only answer we're ever going to get.
And according to the comic Twilight did raise Spike after hatching him.

Preference aside, IDW is not canon. The show itself has never cared to show her growing up with him as either his mother or his sister.
So headcanon for the win... I guess.
Really my reasoning for seeing her as his sister is the way he treats her on the show. Sassing back at her, pranks and other stuff lean more toward sibling connect over a motherly connection.

Truthfully I would love for certain things from IDW to be canon like Nightmare Rarity, though at the same I would truly be annoyed if the origins of Sombra and Chrysalis were also canon. Really I'm fine with it being extra fluff since it allows for experimentation and perfecting of better stories later down the road.
Like, I highly doubt that Sombra would be making a return in season 9 if it hadn't had been for IDW showing that the character indeed has fans.

If his backstory in the comic is canon then wouldn't the power of the crystal heart have destroyed the evil power that took over him and made him good again?

But it's not canon, besides he's not coming back in season 9 as a good guy. He's still a villain which means the writers can do a much better job then IDW did with him and his possible new backstory.
