What if it was the case that one wanted the intense division, the divided in half look. Would the composition of this particular picture need to be worked a bit to attain that, as well as it would have to be worked to get a more unified look? (What I mean is, would the character need to be a bit more separated to make the division look more intentional?) Or would you say going for such a broken look would not necessarily have any true merits without being more divisive [as this picture does seem to be intended to be more merged] (like night vs day, or heaven vs hell, or any other dichotomy).
Not saying that was the intention of the artist or anything, just curious for my own curiousnessness.

If the divided look was sought after, it was almost achieved if it weren't for the very slight breaks of the horizon line - it's at a half-way point now. If the figure's clothing was more uniform, and even helped to create or rested just underneath the horizon line, then a duality would be present. Right now it's akin to mumbling in a conversation instead of stating something clearly; It's not pushing one way or another, it lies somewhere in the middle which can tend to look unattractive.
It's not necessarily a broken look as it is creating a duality - two things interpreted separately, then thought of together by virtue of being on the same picture plane. It all depends on the artist's intent; say if it were a personification of the moon, then it would be a particularly intelligent decision - along with darkening the clouds near the horizon line as to establish the division further. If it's to be taken more literally - the figure is adrift in a sea of stars, then it would hurt the composition as well as how it's interpreted.
