I received an art book regarding color & light for Christmas, which I am dying to read over. As part of my hype to get started soon, I decided to draw something playing with lights, but this is only as far as I understand in terms of colors and lighting techniques, which is not a lot. However I did try to take a slightly different approach at this and it came out okay. For the most part, I tried to not freak out at parts where the progress seemed terrible.

The pose was an ass to draw. I eventually had to take a photo of myself doing this pose and use it as reference. Totally worth that butt cramp.

So Black Rabbit supposedly has two aspects; Cruel and Brutal. Latin sounds cool so I'll give it two names: Crudelis and Saevus. Terms cruelty and brutality seem to be partners in use but they obviously hold separate meanings...Cruelty regards more to sufferings and brutality is more to violence. One does not need to be violent to be cruel and even sadistic, as being brutal does not necessarily mean one holds intent of prolonging sufferings.

I consider cases where there are two people each holding these traits at a perpetual level, meaning, it is their very fabric of nature. It is neither their active decision to be so nor brought upon them to be so. They might have different philosophies, I think. The results of effects they put on others may be the same, but their underlying intent may be completely different; hence their focuses will be different, their approaches will be different. If there were two gods representing cruelty and brutality, they may have quarrels all the time.

In fact, part of my plot will be about this. Black Rabbit just simply holds a somewhat symbolic stance between these two aspects, one who holds both traits and can seemingly exchange between the two. And its trait would be at such a purest form that it holds two clear states of either Crudelis and Saevus. While in reality, there is always middle ground, but as part of BR's beastly nature it's pretty much black and white. Basically kind of philosophical mumbo jumbo that I've been thinking over for a while. I will see how this concept holds when I start integrating it into plots. Who knows, perhaps there's really not that much to concepts of cruelty and brutality, or perhaps there is. In any case, it gave me excuses to draw the rabbit thing.

Took a few hours in photoshop. And just FYI, while most of the image was eyeballed and colored by my hand, the subtle coolness factor that completed this image is really from Photoshop's layering features. My sister taught me some layering techniques that makes the image look more badass, which reminded me the amount of knowledge I have about Photoshop tool is cosmically minimal. Hopefully when I get started on the book, I'll be on a roll to look for other tutorials, guides and resources, and see how I do from there. Ideally, I'd be able to eyeball this entire image without use of tools. Ideally lol

Also, the result of this picture is absolutely not what I had planned in the beginning but I am happy with how it looks right now.
