For those who don't know, Ferncloud was killed off because of the complains that she didn't do her job as a warrior. I think she was doing the clan a favor by helping the new queens and keeping an extra eye on the kits.

I did not want Erin Hunter to kill off Ferncloud, but it did get repetitive when the authors kept re-impregnating her every series. By Power of Three, I was thinking give another she-cat a turn. I think Erin Hunter could have developed her character more. Like having her reach out to cats who need emotional support. They could have had Ferncloud comfort Blossomfall after Millie belittles her. It also would have been interesting if Ferncloud was the one to go after Poppyfrost when she goes missing in the Fourth apprentice. Or have her volunteer to do apprentice duties when the clan was short on apprentices.
I think Ferncloud would have gotten less hate if she wasn't sidelined in every battle(excluding the final battle in The Last hope). The queens of the first series stayed in the nursery most of the time, but were fierce and jumped into battle when needed "Firepaw could see Frostfur and Goldenflower clawing and biting at a huge gray tom. Even the young tabby queen Brindleface was fighting, though she was very close to kitting." (Hunter 152-193). Warriors: Into the Wild. I have often wondered if Dustpelt made a deal with Firestar to keep Ferncloud out of battle.
I think the other problem is that almost every time she is mentioned in the books, she is lying down in the nursery. I think the writers could have given her something to do like playing a game with the kits, comforting one of the other queens, or checking kits for ticks.

Even thought I appreciated her... She is the reason practically everyone is related in Thunderclan and why there is so much incest... (Why did I decided to make a big research on the tree of Thunderclan?... ._.)

At least she did something. I mean, caring for kits is pretty complicated and she helped with that, so it's not like she did nothing at all.
