Description
The Granite Street Boiler Works is highly regarded among railroads everywhere for their high quality steam locomotives. The Sandpatch and Southern is no exception. Many of these engines grace the rails of the SP&S daily, pulling such name trains as Westward Ho (formerly "Westward Limited"), and Fireball Express. Though these name trains are a important part of the SP&S, we rely primarily on fast freight. The first 25 2-8-4s (which includes the 1511) were built by Baldwin. After consulting the GSBW, the SP&S ordered another batch of 2-8-4s, mainly for Time Freight Service. Upon arrival, these engines were rebuilt to the SP&S cosmetic liking (Save 4, which were kept as they were for passenger service), and the SP&S logos were added, and given the numbers 1526-1550. They are well liked among crews and railfans alike.

Deflectors, skyline casing and a headlight on the top of the smokebox...
It looks too good!

If it's made by the GSBW, you know it's gotta be!

Most certainly! It was experiments with the 'Woopaire' firebox that led to the S4-a!

Interesting! The C&O's success with Berks, lead to the development of the 1511.

That inspired the S4 (and the Danish inspired the choice of outside Stephenson, from seeing their locos fitted with Allan), which was less reliable, broke down often, and didn't make much steam.

Yep, and quite a drastic one! The S4s would fall to bits on the 'Codfish Limited'!

Nah, it's just that the Stephenson gear would not be able to handle 85 miles an hour with 20 reefers and 15 RPOs.

Well there was an occasion where a fish train ended up sideways, half under water.

Nah, one that went 'Kathunk' onto it's side, taking some reefers with her.

The superheater did! And so did the cylinders, although nothing further back was too severely damaged, sparing the crew.

Ah, the P&LE engines, I am quite familiar with them, they used to run where I live (they partly inspired this engine's looks!)! I am so very pleased that you thought P&LE when you saw this girl!
