Description
Sooo for whatever reason, I decided to revisit a character who was originally meant as a one-off some time ago. His name is Aphra, and he's a Sphinx. A very slinky one, more of a blend of human and feline into a long, slender shape. ^_^ He has a bit of a story to him now, as well.Aphra is a divine familiar - a creature that belongs to something very old and powerful, and normally exists in its domain. However, should an ambitious wizard, witch, or warlock find and perform a specific ritual, they can summon Aphra as a physical creature and enter into a contract with him. They will then have a very powerful and intelligent creature at their disposal...but it's not quite as simple as that.Β
The summoner has to maintain their end of the bargain, acting as caretaker to this sassy Sphinx that is quite like a housecat in his behavior and personality, and he has many demands that his owner must fulfill. If the summoner fails in their duty as his caretaker, Aphra will instead devour them. But for those who take good care of him, he will help them become incredibly powerful in the arcane arts, and will maintain their life for the duration of the contract.
I hope to do more with him, honestly. He has a decent potential to become a recurring character. But more than that, he's just been fun to draw.

He can, yes. But as word's gotten around, it's less fun if everyone knows the answer. So he'll change up his questions.Β

I admittedly don't have a list of specific riddles lined up for him at this time.
But the result of a correct answer depends on whether the person is his current caretaker, or someone else. For general people, a correct answer can earn some knowledge. For his current caretaker, a correct answer can earn "special" insight and knowledge into the arcane.
As for a wrong answer...If it's his caretaker, a wrong answer wouldn't be as bad, just some general harassment and disobedience for a while. Occasionally some "light" bites and scratches, but nothing fatal. If it's someone else, a wrong answer can result in an attack - not out of malicious intent, more like a cat having fun killing mice and birds. Won't always be quick.

so it wouldn't be like the one from the old fable?

Correct. He's not theΒ Sphinx from the fable.

Thank you! ^_^
I may still make some little adjustments to his design here and there, but overall I think this is about where I want it to be, and I'm glad you like it!

AAA HE IS BACK
I haven't discovered your gallery when the first picture of him got made, but I looked at it a lot, and I loved him. (Also mistook him for a her. Oh well.) He looked so tame, so chill, just reading as a human does and trying to find a comfortable position in a chair not designed for him. And now he's back ^^ he looks much less tame and more inhuman now. A beautiful boy.Β

Thanks! ^_^
I still like his original design, but I wanted to try giving him a bit of an update. I've honestly always seen sphinxes as being a little ambiguous in their morality, and I wanted to try to incorporate that if I could. I'm glad to hear you still like him! ^_^

XD It would be fun to involve him in a story sometime. He'd be a terrible housemate.

I love their look and especially the dynamic for character use. I mean, for as long as it lasts before someoneβs eaten~

Thanks!
I did want to make a character/creature that could have an interesting dynamic regardless of who it happens to be placed with. ^_^
