Samus taking on Ridley the way I envision, I haven't played metroid other m but I heard the Samus ridley battle has spawned a lot of hate. So I made this to awesome it up a bit.Related content

The FIGHT was fucking amazing. If you ever wanted to see Samus take her super strength and actually use it, this is the fight you want. In no other Ridley fight does Samus dash at the fucker, swing on his mouth and pull him down, and, without even bothering to look him in the eye, shove her cannon up his mouth and unload a charge beam shot.
The cutscenes before and after (and throughout the ENTIRE. GODFORSAKEN. GAME.) however, are misogynistic and terrible. If the game took out the cutscenes and just played how it does, it would have been an awesome, prettied-up successor to Fusion.

Yeah well I kind of exaggerated the size a bit, I think originally Ridleys only a several feet taller than Samus, but I thought it would be cool to exaggerate a bit so this image could come together

Its because I always associate Ridley with being a smaller boss than the others. He's intelligent and close to being human but he's so brutal. I actually think he's scarier when near human height

The fight in Other M with Ridley is pretty much an homage to the rest of the Ridley battles in the series. I really like the fight.
The problems with Other M stem from the cutscenes and how Samus acts as a character, going against everything that she was.

I heard from a source that the original creator who worked on the original games and this game intended for samus to be frightened when she met ridely, even though she fought him before. Also some other stuff about how Other M was canon but the Prime series wasn't for some reason. I guess it just sums up to ideas badly conceived to add personality to a strong character.

The original creator, at least one of them, died in 1997. Yoshio Sakamoto, the guy responsible for Other M worked on the original Metroid with Gunpei Yokoi I think. I don't know how it was messed up so bad. If they had a younger Samus freak out at Ridley, I would be fine with it. But this is the Samus who has killed/encountered Ridley a lot. I would imagine that Samus would think "Oh hey, this asshole is alive again." And then go and kill him.
Other M is apparently canon, but I, and most of the Metroid fanbase don't see it as canon. As for the Prime Series, I think Other M knocking it out of canon is just Sakamoto not wanting to admit that a western studio made better games than he did.
Samus having a personality was wanted, but it was done so badly.

Nice work! In Other M, you actually can shove your cannon up Ridley's throat when he's stunned for major damage! The fight itself was great in my opinion. It's the cutscene prior that people don't like.

That Sounds AWESOME , From what I hear it seems like people focus on the negative story elements of the game rather than the actual gameplay. A shame really.

There are some bad parts about Other M, but too many blow it out of proportion and only focus on those rather than the game as a whole. And as an entire product, I thought it was fine. If nothing else, the gameplay was pretty fun. Sure, it was most linear one in the series, but using Samus felt good, because she was quick and agile like the classic games, and you could finally use melee combat for the first time.
I will agree that there are things that could have been done better, or outright need fixing or changing, but if only for the gameplay, Other M was good to me!

Same here. Nintendo said Retro Studios would be considered a priority developer for the next game, so that's a good sign. Nintendo also thinks there's room for both a Prime-styled game and classic 2D style game.

Thank You! I can't tell you how hard it is to get someone on deviantart to give good, fair constructive criticism. On the light source, now that I see it I can definitely see what you mean. Although lighting always befuddled me, its very tricky for me to understand as i can see various light sources and reflective light in the most unexpected ways. In the piece I can see that for the shoulders I could have curved the shadows to suggest more of the direction of the light source. But thank you for the helpful advice I'll take it in consideration.
