Backstory Hiram had an unusual start in life, born the literal black sheep of the family. His parents and siblings were a normal sandy color while Hiram came out, black and grey and full of spunk. Hezekiah, Hiram's father was displeased with his sons' mutation and made it very clear with a disagreeable Cornelia who insisted they should not cull him. Luckily for Hiram, his mother made the case that he was still big and strong and was worth putting resources into for future prides. Hezekiah hesitantly went along with her, considering Hiram's mother was his favorite female. Needless to say, there was a lot of good luck that went into Hiram's early life survival. As a young cub, he was often teased and looked down on by other lions, especially other young cubs in the pride. Haram's brother, Elias, was sympathetic to his plight and often attempted to defend him. Haram figured it was easy for him to do so, considering there would be no doubt that he was the future Lead Male and not himself--What lioness would desire a male with such an atypical appearance? No, they would want a healthy, strong, normal cub; A wish that his brother could grant but he could not. However, Hiram did not let this get him down, he had to believe he was born this way for a reason. When it came time to be taught to hunt and fend for himself, his size and color helped earn him to rapport among his fellow pridemates. Adolescents training with him and the lionesses instructing him noticed quickly that nocturnal hunting was especially easy for the black cub. He blended in with his surroundings astonishingly well and was capable of evading any of their preys' wandering gaze before leaping out for the kill. Despite the lionesses being the primary source of prey for the clan, Hiram found comfort in aiding them on hunting patrols in the early morning and at night time.
Elias, secretly envious of his Haram's wooing of the huntresses with his unique skills, worked on perfecting his fighting technique and learning how to be lead of the pride, preparing for the day when he would challenge his father and take what was his. Haram never bothered with kingly things-- though he learned to fight, patrol, and protect, his eyes were never set on the throne since he expected it was something he was likely to never obtain.
As fate would have it, Hezekiah passed at the age of 10 years due to a kick in the head from an irritated giraffe, leaving only the adult lionesses and Haram to care for in his stead, thankfully. Elias tolerated Hiram's presence for another year before he started showing interest in his lionesses. Hiram, bigger, more skilled, and stronger than Hiram now chased him from their territory. Hiram attempted to challenge Elias but lost miserably, gaining a few scars for the story. The black lion couldn't say he was surprised, he assumed he would be chased from the territory eventually but he had not expected his brother to be the one to do it. As young cubs, Elias had promised he would let Hiram stay and live out his years in the pride. Once they had matured though, Hiram had only one thing on his mind which he assumed was what Elias had on his mind as well which led to his decision to boot him from the pride.
He made a lot of mistakes, surviving on his own at first but after a couple years, he got used to it. The male learned where to find water, food, and shelter and even made a few friends--and a few enemies...-- along the way. He learned that most of the human presence was non-threatening but still kept a wide berth, minding the stories of poachers his mother used to tell. They seemed awful infatuated with him and blinked like the stars in the night sky when he was around. With his dark pelt, finding prey was as difficult as the preys' population rather than his ability to sneak up on a weaker one or a youngling. He's made friends with some monkeys and other creatures on the savannah that help him when he needs it.
Hiram now roams the savannahs of South Africa (on land of a nature reserve), searching for lionesses to call his own and start his own pride. With his unnatural coloration though, he might have a harder go of it than his fellow lone males.
Lol, so this is like 4 years in the making
but it's here!! I've had plans for this guy for a super long time and have never had the muse to draw him until now. I've been playing a lot of Lioden lately so I imagine that has something to do with it....
Anyways, enjoy! Open to RP offers
