Great shot she must have had to keep very still to get the bluring effect of the waves

Yup, a four second pose is hard enough without a wave breaking over them...so yes, very hard. We made about 6 before I was sure we had one good one!

Love the light and water. The only thing is the positioning of her left arm. This angle and pose makes it look like it's cut off...a bit awkward, but otherwise a very nice shot

Thanks for your comments and thoughts on the images...dangling limbs are always difficult, especially in situations like this, where refining the pose etc is near impossible (due to the moving water)...we do the best we can with that presents itself!

Yes, you make some good points. Any hints on how to keep models still in moving water for 2s exposures? :-P
The best results indeed

I do a lot of stitching (6-20+ frames) in rivers, where there is constant motion, but for ocean, it is generally a one-shot deal. As to keeping models still, using a faster shutter speed for the model, and then a slow one for the water, and combining the two is always a possibility.

Thanks Laura, glad you enjoyed viewing the image (p.s. saw your dad last night, and showed him the work I did in Scotland, which he seemed to like!).

I'm not quite sure that there is an adequate word in the english language to express the sheer magnificence of this image ... it's pure magic ... it makes me think of transitional existence - if there was a 'lace' beyond this life ... this seems to embody the ultimate spirit of humanity - Stunning!!

Now this one is in a clas all it's own; extra special. I totally adore the way the sea is so much like a mist rolling up over the model and her expression si so sublime. It seems that Andree is quite a master of perfect facial expressions and poses..Kudos to you both!

Thank you for your thoughts, this was the second-last post of the day, and was a wonderful surprise...the expression might come from Andree having to hold still for 4 seconds...

Buddhalassie In reply to ericbb [2008-08-22 00:47:15 +0000 UTC]
there's the rub, hey! Holding still for four seconds is the thing. My latest images with the couple were an issue and it wasnt four seconds either. But they kept laughing becuase we were all making silly jokes. Not very professional I admit but the camaraderie was priceless.

Working with couples is so amazing, it is hard for people who haven't to understand the dynamic...though often (because of what I am seeking in the images) my work is more mellow and relaxed than funny, I have certainly witness the odd tickle fight...

I really enjoyed the way the couple I worked with totally forgot they were naked after only a short time. there was an amazing rapport between the three of us that I found really refreshing and it left me feeling good all the rest of the day. I only wish I had been able to do any justice to the occasion. I can see I am gonna have to tackle this problem of personal ineptitude and slackness!
I only wish i could spend a day or two with a professional photographer whilst they worked.I am sure that would make a whole load of difference.
I have nearly reached the place where I am deciding to look for some kind of course to do that will improve my paltry abilities. Of course the cost of most of them is so prohibitive and my isolation is another problem as it is so far to the nearest University.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself - a first time working with any new subject is all learning, and little success, take it from me. Practice makes perfect!
