Worse than Hitler...far worse.
The shame is that the West is still in self-imposed denial.

Very true! Every time someone tells me how "evil' the Germans were, I just remind them that the US fought on the same side as the Communists in WWII. Makes them so mad they can't see straight.

I agree, the Soviets were as bad as, if not worse than the Nazis. However, communism in and of itself is actually a very beautiful concept, it's just that it's (so far) impossible to execute according to plan...some bastard always has to warp it around into a dictatorship. Fascism, on the other hand, has no such redeeming qualities.

My final point: if you wanna denounce Stalin, or Kruschev, or Mao, or Castro, or whoever, be my guest. HOWEVER: there's no need to bash a good idea.

SouthernMan In reply to Tengu-Kitsune [2009-03-27 10:55:07 +0000 UTC]

Communism is anything but beautiful. Equality of the masses is not possible and not even a desired thing. If you try to make everyone equal you must dumb down the rest of the population to the lowest common denominator. They are trying that here in the US in the schools and are calling it "No child left behind", which actually is "No child gets ahead and reaches their fullest potential". In communism the leaders are the Elite and the masses are the sheep. Communism has never worked and it never will as long as the people have any freedom left, especially the right to bear arms.

Tengu-Kitsune In reply to SouthernMan [2009-03-29 20:45:29 +0000 UTC]

I'm not mocking you, and I'm not trying to start a fight, but you seem to think that "equal" is no different from "identical". I must point out that that is a mistaken idea. What you are describing, the flattening out of society so that everybody is the same, that is not equality, that is identicality. Equality is everybody having the same freedom to choose what they want to do, where they want to go with their lives.

Also, you do not have to "dumb down" the rest of society to the level of the "lowest common denominator"; there is always, ALWAYS the ability and the choice to raise up the "lowest common denominator" to the level of everyone else.

I agree with you, "No Child Left Behind" is a horrible idea, but it has nothing to do with communism.

Finally, your understanding of communism seems a bit biased. "In communism the leaders are the Elite and the masses are the sheep." This is actually a perfect description of our system of government. The USA is a beautiful country, but it is also a gravely flawed country. We torture and arrest innocent people because we suspect them to be terrorists. We openly support and prop up evil dictators because they agree to trade with us. We have subjugated and humiliated the Native Americans for centuries without any trace of having qualms. We go to war, not for ideals or democracy, but for oil and blood-stained money.

And in defense of my earlier statement that "communism is a beautiful idea", I say this: I agree with you. Communism never has worked and it most likely never will. But this is not because it strips people of their liberties. No, Communism fails because TRUE Communism exists without a ruling class, something that will most likely never happen.

No offense taken. I like good discussions.

The way I look at it is that in Communism the leaders want everyone else to be equal or identical whichever you want to call it. That way the masses don't know what life at a higher level is like. Just my opinion.

True, what we have in the US is the Elite and then the masses. The US right now has a Socialist at best administration. Personally I think Obama is a Marxist but he won't admit it. All you have to do is look at what he has done and is trying to do now that he is president. Everything he is trying to get passed is heading straight for Communism whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

You're right, the US is a beautiful country and gravely flawed. I am saddened by seeing what is happening on a daily basis. It certainly isn't as beautiful as it once was. Big Brother has way too much power and getting worse everyday. I don't know if it's too late to stem the tide or not, but I'm still hopeful.

You have no idea how refreshing it is to hear somebody say that.

From my point of view, a communist government in this day and age isn't evil, it's just kinda stupid. Like all of those messy-as-hell marxist governments down in Southern Africa; they all got started with good intentions, but nobody wanted to go along with it, and now it's all going down the tubes.

I agree that the US shouldn't be a communist or socialist type government, but there are many good things that we've cribbed from socialism. Take health care or social security, just to name a couple of examples. And as for whether Obama is a marxist or not...I gotta admit that I don't know enough about his policies in detail to pass judgment on that, but it's my opinion that what he's doing right now is much better than what his predecessor was doing. He may be green and over-idealistic, but I think he's honestly trying to fix us up.

I really doubt that it's too late. As long as we're still a democracy, it's easily within our power to set things right. We just need to pay more attention to the world at large instead of whatever Johnny Knoxville or Dog the Bounty Hunter are doing.

Well, we don't agree on much, that's for sure, but I like the exchange.

Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme ever invented. There is absolutely ZERO dollars in the Social Security Fund, but most Americans still think it's well-funded. And Socialized Health Care? I guess it would be OK if you wanted to wait months for a necessary operation. I pay over $5000 a year from my Health Insurance, and I'm mad as hell about it, but Socialized Health Care is not the answer.

Obama will be the death of the US if he keeps up what he has done so far. The dollar is worthless, and those who have all of their investments in dollar denominate assets are doomed. Obama wants a new World Currency, but just hasn't admitted it yet. Check out the G-20 meeting that is going on right now and see what the Chinese are wanting along with several other countries. The worthless UN is behind this as well. Obama is a puppet of the New World Order which wants a One World Currency, One World Bank, One World Army, and a micro-chipped population so they can keep track of and control everyone. Orwell was right in "1984". The world he described is closer than most people think.

Tengu-Kitsune In reply to SouthernMan [2009-04-10 14:47:03 +0000 UTC]

True, but it still beats privatized social security or health care...which is basically no social security or health care at all. I mean, which would you rather have: a shaky safety net, or none at all?

I think you're exaggerating on a lot of that. We've been through much tougher times than this, and we can do it again. The dollar is far from worthless, but it does need help badly. And as for the UN, it's also far from worthless. Yeah, I agree we should focus on our own sorry selves before we go sticking our fingers in other people's business, but we still need to keep tabs on and help out with what everybody else is doing. Sticking our fingers in our ears and screaming "La la la, I can't hear you, la la la!" is not going to help anything.

A perfect example of why we need the UN: because we were being so isolationist back in the 30's, we constantly underestimated or blew off the threat of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. If we had taken an interest in events outside our borders, we probably would have been much better prepared for the coming storm.

I will agree with you on one thing though: we do need to keep an eye on the Chinese. Right there are some of the craftiest and hardest-to-predict people on the face of the planet, and they're closing the power gap between us as fast as they can. Scary stuff. I think we also need to watch out for Russia; they might technically be a democracy now, but as long as thugs like Putin and his lackeys are in power, they're going to be just as dangerous as they were in the past.

SouthernMan In reply to Tengu-Kitsune [2009-04-10 19:03:32 +0000 UTC]

Nice to hear from you again.

Privatized Health Care is much better than Socialized Health Care IF one can afford it. Personally I think everyone should be responsible for their own retirement plan and not be forced to contribute to Social Security.

Actually the dollar is as close to worthless as it has ever been. Consider the Trillions Obama is throwing at the bankers, mortgage giants, auto companies, et al. There is no way all that money will ever be paid back. More money in circulation means a weaker dollar. Will it ever get as bad as post WWI Germany? Probably not, but it's still going to get worse before it gets better....in my humble opinion.

The UN is nothing but a bunch of spies on US soil. The US should never have joined, and should not have allowed the UN building to be built on US soil.

And speaking of Nazi Germany, the US should never had entered WWII. We had no interest in that war nor in WWI, or Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. We always stick our noses where they don't belong. Again, just my humble opinion.

Tengu-Kitsune In reply to SouthernMan [2009-04-10 20:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Same here.

I tend to agree with you, people should work things out for themselves more than they do these days, but I also think that the government should do something to help out people who could never improve their lot on their own.

Yeah, it is pretty bad. But I think we're still a long ways from using plastic coins and wallpapering houses with dollar bills. And we really aren't as poor as everybody seems to think. I keep hearing people raving about how much the "national debt" keeps going up. Doesn't anybody realize that people owe us too? I mean, pretty much all of Europe owes us tons for our helping out with rebuilding. And hell, there are whole countries that wouldn't exist if we hadn't given them cash when they needed it.

I have a hard time believing that. The UN's only reason for existence is to help people and to keep the peace. Granted, they have a hard time carrying those goals out, but that's because it takes too long to get everybody to agree to something. I really hope that you're wrong, and that the UN is not just a bunch of spies, because if they are, then the whole stinkin' world is our enemy.

I agree with you on WWI, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. We had no business getting involved in those, and we should've just stayed put. However, I gotta put my foot down on WWII. On that one, we didn't just decide "hey, we've got nothin' to do, let's go mess around in some other country's war", we were attacked. And not just Pearl Harbour either, but a whole string of islands all over the Pacific. And whether we had been attacked or not, going to war was still the right thing to do. I don't know about you, but I'd find it pretty hard to sit on my hands and look the other way while some madman is trying to wipe an entire race off the face of the planet.
