Outline of the concept: The neighboring planet is 'erupting' (shown by the yellow lava pools) and is sending intense heat towards the futuristic city plane. The dark sphere in between is a wormhole that connects with a distant region in outer space as a way to escape. Wormholes are often used in scifi scenarios as a means to travel large distances in space and time, which implies they are opened up by some advanced civilization at will - and so is this one.

This artwork was made for the week 4 challenge "Aerials" at mattepaint.com. The task was to create an artwork from the pack of stock photos provided by the site for the purpose of the challenge. The Aerials-pack included a number of sky photos and city-skylines that I used to complete this scene. Additional photos I used were purchased from photobash.org. Other stuff was painted, which is a bit more than in my usual works. I also tested a different 'finishing' this time. Hope you like it!
