I've watched playthroughs of metroidvania platformer games such as Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forestand its sequel, Aeterna Noctis and Afterimage and that got me thinking of what fairy tale character would be the most suitable to be a metroidvania platformer protagonist. For this exercise, I picked Little Red Riding Hood.

I even started brainstorming a premise that expands outside the original fairytale, where Little Red Riding Hood, or in this case, Scarlet (a name I picked for this rendition of the character) was delivering the basket of goods to her grandmother when she stumbles upon an ancient wolf spirit that grants her amazing powers. Unfortunately, when Scarlet arrives at her grandmother's cottage, she discovers a wolffolk wearing her grandmother's clothes who attacks her. It turns out that the great wolf spirit Scarlet accepted was supposed to mean whoever is endowed it must go on a great quest within a surreal world where the wolffolk live, which may have beautiful wonders but also dangerous hazards like you would see in a difficult metroidvania platformer.

But, Scarlet wasn't supposed to accept the great wolf spirit because she's a human and other wolffolk will try to eat her for it. Scarlet offers to go on the quest herself after she learns more about what she ended up getting involved in...and realizing her grandmother and the wolffolk who tried to deceive Scarlet were friendly neighbors.
