for face definition, basically all I'm doing is bringing out the face muscles and making them stronger to the eye. here's what I do:
1. take a 2px brush on White and set the opacity to about 50% (a graphics tablet is VERY helpful here!)
2. go over the horses original face muscles to highlight them. a referance image can help you choose which muscles to define more than others.
3. I then do the same thing with the same brush, but set to Black, to create the lowlights of the face muscles.
