Description
Design 32 for the Lockheed CL-407, a Mach 3.0 V/STOL Strike Aircraft from the late 1950s. Ambitious, to say the least, No. 32 includes a single J79-X207A mounted on pivot allowing it to be angled straight down and three J85 lift fans in the fuselage behind the cockpit. With a crew of one, the aircraft could carry a single 1,000 lb air-to-ground missile in an internal bay while reaching speeds up to Mach 2.5.In the end, the program never left Lockheed's internal design boards.
