Description
A bit of homage to my favourite stories and films.Just wanted to practice a my photography and lighting tricks.
A little editing made these look like something in a mag somewhere . . . well to me anyway.
It was fun!

Heh, well you asked so I figured I'd pose my response as to why.
Honestly everything is just 'right' about this picture. The composition is wonderfully balanced with the use of the cross of the crosspiece and the hilt... you can turn it any way you like and it still has beautiful composition. The detail is picked up nicely but there's still that elusive black that gives it mystery and depth. You feel, with the heavy contrast, that you're looking into the picture. Like you could reach out and touch the sword. I mean you can even see the detail on the leather.
There's a nice balance of texture too... the rough of the background and the placard with the smoothness of the steel and leather hilt.
The lighting has a lovely warmth to it that contrasts with the dark I mentioned earlier which I guess adds to the depth of the image but also makes it friendly and almost gives it a romantic feel. Which is most appealing not just with it being a sword but being Aragorn's... the wayward Ranger-King.
I guess ultimately it comes down to balance. There's a beautiful amount of it going on in this one picture. More, in my opinion, than the others.
Hope that helps some? It really is a great shot! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you for this, Luna.
That really helped. I can see what you mean about the texture and balance in all aspects. I did notice before how well it turned out, but just couldn't put my finger on what was special. You rock!

No problem! I know how it is sometimes when you're just not sure what it is that people like but you know it looks good, hehe. Glad to have helped

Oooh, I like the composition in this one! I also like how the lighting is a bit more gentle, creating a different feel and just blending a nice accent to the silvery metal. Again, love the textures, great shot!

Thank you, KC. Just to tell you what an amateur I am at this, I had no idea I was getting all the right elements in this shot. I was just experimenting . . . .

Thank you, thank you!
Oh, it was a hoot to do! Very cool flash! It mounts to the camera, and has an elbow and pivots.
Manual focus is the way to go if you want to get these details.
