Description
This is another view of an old project that I created originally in 2011. It was done as part of my final project for a 3D class I took at the time.Although I was happy with the initial results I felt as if something was missing or not quite right about it. Other projects were pressing me at the time so I had to put it down for a long period of time. In the last few months I decided to re-visit this sculpt, and after working on it for quite a bit of time this is the final result.
I am an avid fan of martial arts, specially Kung-Fu. Choy Li Fut
I wanted to sculpt a very dynamic pose of a Shaolin in the middle of one of his routines.

Haha!, yeah, I love kung Fu in all it's forms, I am not a practitioner, but my son is and he is truly good at it. I get lots of inspiration and references for my works from him. I checked you drawings, and I must say, wow, those are truly good, I really like the piece called, "Thangka Padmasambhava, Padmo Gyalpo", I also like the scripts and how stylish they are. Keep up the good work.

The base mesh was made in Maya and it is has around 3000 polys. The high resolution mesh was sculpted in ZBrush and it has 191 million polygons.

ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY ONE MILLION!? GGGUUUHHH!!! *faints* Jeeze! I can only assume that this was achieved with one hell of a displacement map, ne?

Yep! 32-bit displacement map made up of 8K maps (the body alone is made up of 3 maps). It also has the same amount of 8K Normal maps for all the fine details and pores. I made the maps that big so I can have large print outputs later on, and still be able to keep an optimal resolution. Although, such large maps would not be necessary if I had made the character for a game.

It IS a very dynamic pose indeed! It was the first thing that caught my eye. Then I noticed it was really well sculpted. I love how the arm muscles look :3
