This diptych came out a lot different than I had imagined it would.
Originally, I pictured simply as a somewhat blurry photo of the beach, with a girl standing on the sand looking out to sea, as a backdrop to the lyrics simply in French overlaid, and the translation in the deviation description.
Somewhere along the line that evolved into two panels, one with each language overlaid. I like the duality of that, being Canadian and Australian, I'm somewhat torn in two myself, and that filters into the meaning of the piece, I think.
But going through stock photos of the ocean (and there are quite a few some of which are truly amazing) and trying to find pictures that would properly convey what I felt was the power of the ocean, the majesty and sheer immense size... I got lost for a while and had to set the project aside.
Picking it up again months later, I discovered and decided on two images that really struck me: the little girl poised on the edge of the surf, and the beach with the flag. (Those of you back home will know what that flag means.) These two images just stood out to me, and really captured what it is that I felt flowing through me back when I was standing on burning sands, spray and the smell of salt wafting over me, with the sun beating down on my shoulders.
I Photoshop-ed in two more interesting skies than were there originally in order to heighten the effect. I originally tried setting the title up between the two panels where it is now and placing the words below them to leave an un-obscured view, however that just made the whole thing feel too cluttered, and I think it makes the connection between the lyrics and the feelings they evoke and the images stronger. And once I'd done that, the white was too empty and needed decoration, so the two doilies got added.
I'm quite proud of this; it's the first piece that I've put a decent amount of work into and brought to bear the miniscule but evolving knowledge I have of Photoshop in order to produce. I learned an incredible amount working on this. (Three cheers for Layer Masks, they saved my life more than once here.)
Thanks to *Shinybinary for the Layer Masks tutorial, what I learned there is REALLY helping with the projects I'm working on now. And a HUGE thank you to ~chocolate-neko who double checked my French translation of the lyrics, and then re-double checked them for the final product.
This is dedicated to my home, the life I used to have, the friends who haven't forgotten me, the place I desperately want to be and most of all to the blue skies and endless sea that I'll find my way back to one day.

haha like the girl/guy above said, I love the details to the picture and how the flag/girls bathing suit are the same colors, and the contrast between the two pictures. Great Job ;D!!!

Pardon me for being my strange little self, but.
I really love this photomanipulation! I also like how there are two versions, one in French and one in English, and how each has its differences. The ocean on the right's colors are vibrant in a lovely way, and the flag and the girl's swimsuit are the same colors (which I just noticed.)
Yes. Well, thank you for putting up with my random annoyingness, and thank you for posting this. It really is a lovely piece.

Thanks so much ! I really appreciate that you took the time to put in some actual criticism rather than the standard DevArt, "oooh. so pretty!" ya get around here. This piece is the one I've put the most work into thus far, so it's really nice to hear it's appreciated.
