Description

Two Federation frigates, the USS Antares a Miranda class and the USS Olos, a science ship of the Elfaron class .

The Frigate is a type of rather small ship employed by many fleets. Smaller and less well-armed than a Destroyer, and mainly used for such duties as picketing, escorting convoys, research missions, patrol duties and other roles reserved for small vessels which would be a waste of resources for larger starships.

Frigates often generalized as small, lightly armed and armored ships designed to fight in packs and operation during fleet engagements. During solo operations, the space-going Frigate is a master of secondary role like scouting, escorting, and patrol. At times, Frigates are the first assignment of recent graduates of the Starfleet Academy and first commands. The depicted USS Olos here was the first command of Commander Ellen Delia during the beginnings of the Dominion War. Due to their large number, frigates are first responders in crisis operations, as these ships can be made operational more quickly and have to be manned with fewer crews.
