Description

A deal had been made between two friends, that whoever would bring back the biggest meal to their haven would be allowed to skip the hunting duty for the next month.

That’s how the feathered Kukuri ended up patiently waiting for the best moment to jump on a prey, in a slightly bent position while she hid inside a bush. Ears perked and eyes focused on the surroundings, Pixel softly giggled at the thought of what Gidget could possibly bring back… after all, she always found ways to impress her.

As she turned her head around, the little fox's gaze fell upon a Gidget two inches away from her face. Needless to say, startled was an understatement for the one who jumped two meters backwards! Meanwhile the unbothered golden dove approached her friend with a smile extending from one ear to the other, making the flying Kukuri squint as incertitude rose… What was Gidget preparing? A prank? Or was her smile genuine for once?

Moving slowly, the mechanic arm gently dragged something from the bush, bringing the attention to a rather unusual small cylindrical object.

"What's that?", asked Pixel as she started licking her neck fur to slowly tame the recent scare still visible all over her pelt.

"Oh, you know... something… fun", said Gidget

Somehow as if it was possible, Gigi's smile seemed to grow bigger, which made the fox-like lady tense up once more; at this point Pixel probably looked more like a puffed fur ball rather than a winged Kukuri. Anyhow, the fear didn't override her natural curiosity and the crimson dove lifted her arms towards the object to claim the right of inspection. With a swift movement, the mechanic arm retracted fully on itself and Gidget stuck her tongue towards her friend.

"No touchy", she said winking, "Transdimensional destination here we go!", the golden dove added excitedly as she broke the object in half with the renown strength her metal fingers could allow her.

Just like in ninja movies, a huge cloud exploded out of the object, and it was soon impossible to distinguish anything from the environment they were in just a moment ago. The only thing Pixel could still see was her friend standing, all smile and staring back at her as distortion started to make its effect on both of them… The atmosphere was getting strange, their fur seemed to float, their sight became liquified and slightly blurred as if they were standing underwater.

A sudden cracking noise was heard amongst the mist and distortions, and the two Kukuris turned their heads towards the sound. Gidget had lost her smile, her side now stuck to Pixel’s as they both noticed a moving silhouette inside the white drape that surrounded them… a human shape slowly approached, grumbling under its breath and visibly unhappy about something.

When it finally arrived close enough, Gidget bounced forward and launched her mechanical arm towards what was expected to be the head of the creature.

BANG

The human-shaped mass started falling backwards, creating swirls of mist around itself before dropping on the cold floor with a loud thud. Carefully, the golden dove approached closer to identify what she had knocked down… Pixel, who had stayed at a secure distance away, watched the scene unfold.

As soon as Gidget reached the head of the creature, she abruptly stopped in her tracks.

“Ay! It’s Byrn!”, she exclaimed

"Oh, it's Byrn." she muttered again, realization now sinking in, pulling her fist up to her chin, thinking deeply at the potential consequences of her actions. For once.

Shooting a worried look over her shoulder back to the exasperated Pixel for only a moment before turning her attention back to the white haired handler she was quite familiar with... Wait, did he always have two heads?

Grumbling, groaning, Byrn started to pull himself up from the dusty ground; now resting upon his elbows as he assessed the situation before him. Would it be irresponsible of him to just lay back down and surrender these two to whatever fate they had stumbled upon? He did not want to deal with this. Goofy gurgling and drool from the both of them... what did they eat? His sense of responsibility outweighed his desire to avoid this situation; he rose up to his feet and began to speak, scolding the duo.

"Whoa, I didn't realize humans could make a squelching noise like that." Pixel nearly gagged at her perception of the situation. Both miniatures however looked to one another, with fear in their eyes when Byrn suddenly sprouted a vast array of tentacles and began to approach them.

Nope.

Screaming and racing off, the duo wanted to spontaneously teleport to get away from the sudden monster besieging them. Such prayers were not answered and so their feet must carry them away from here.

"Get back here!" Byrn cried, desperate to herd the two inebriated children back to safety.

The trio was now racing through the forest trails, getting closer with every step to the future outpost's location. The people hauling crates, pulling wagons and delivering supplies were monsters of many forms to them in their current state; twisting and warping, changing from one entity into another such as plants with tendrils, the farmers became frogs in overalls and that poor horse and cart fused together with it's cargo.

The two ladies only screamed louder the worse their trip got.

Byrn was apologizing every turn he took as he took the most direct path he could to try and intercept the duo, vaulting over the fences and cutting off the carts on the path, he made good ground too as the two idiots were not all that far off from him. One more good route choice and he’d have them in his reach.

Such hopeful thinking.

In the distance up ahead, Byrn’s features fell to despair as a caravan of hunters pulled up with such precious cargo in tow; valuable parts and hunted goods stacked up nicely… with two morons sprinting straight towards it. Gidget cried out loudly, Pixel screeched as they both skidded to a halt, their eyes turned upwards towards the magnificent cargo in utter horror. Frozen in place, Byrn finally caught up to them, panting and swearing as he leaned over, propping himself up on his knees and desperate for air. Turning his eyes back on his charge, and to his surprise, they had suddenly sprinted off again. So much for that.
