Waking Up

If Marion had a heart, it would have been racing. He'd lain beside Alexis' unconscious body for more than 12 hrs straight now, only tilting his head upwards every now and then to check on Alexis' condition. He didn't dare move any more than that-he didn't want to risk being taken from her by horrified nurses and doctors. Especially when it had taken him so much effort to get where he was now...

He'd figured that when the paramedics wheeled her in, he would most likely be separated from her and possibly shut up with the rest of her things that either she or a family member would retrieve at a later date. So, during all the chaos, he'd stayed in the backpack long enough to hear what room they'd be taking her in before slipping out and using the ventilation system to follow them. At first, he'd had no idea how he would possibly be able to plant himself alongside her without being removed by suspicious hospital staff. (he was not oblivious to the creepiness of his appearance). But when he passed over a small, closed gift shop located on the same floor, he figured out what to do. Since no one was in the shop, and the vents were far too small for any human to climb through-and as such, were not guarded- it was easy for him to break in and forge a sympathy card that he attached to himself. He'd then used the ventilation system to find her room and had placed beside her. The idea had been to make himself look like a present someone had given her so the nurses and doctors wouldn't think anything of him. And it had worked. So far, nobody had even given him a second glance...

So far, it had been excruciatingly boring for Marion to sit so perfectly still for so long, especially with his worry for Alexis eating him alive. Deep down, he knew that she would be alright, but that still didn't do anything to soothe his worries. It seemed that with every good scenario that ran through his mind, there were a dozen bad ones to counter it. Oh, how he wanted to scream in frustration. A quick glance at the clock ticking on the other side of the room told him that it was 2 AM . And that was when he felt it. Alexis' arm. It moved.

Marion's eyes widened before immediately snapping upward to see his precious Alexis' eyelids flutter. Joy overwhelmed his entire being as he threw precaution to the wind and climbed on top of her. His face was literally inches above her's and his arms gripped her shoulders with unrestrained excitement as he watched her face-which had been peaceful and stony for so long- begin to come alive. As he watched, her eyelids slowly crack open to reveal the caring dark-brown orbs underneath that he constantly sought comfort from.

For a moment, she didn't recognize him, and only looked blankly up at him. But as she continued to stare up at him, her expression changed to one of bewilderment and lastly, realization, as she processed who was above her. "M-marion?" she whispered with heartbreaking pitifulness, her voice cracking from underuse.

Marion nodded vigorously, bringing one of his hands from her shoulders to cup the side of her face. A trembling smile spread across his face as emotion overwhelmed him, grateful tears starting to form in his eyes. She was going to be ok.

With one hand, he cupped the side of her face that had the least amount of damage done to it, and gently rubbed his thumb in circles over her unblemished cheek. His smile grew even wider as she returned the gesture, "H-hey you..." She whispered with a bit more strength, an exhausted grin coming to her face. "H-hi~" Marion playfully whispered back.
