I've been workin' on this for a while now. I'm happy Sophie turned out pretty good!i honestly cannot get enough of this movie, it's so lovely in every element. i've always wanted to draw howl in his bird form.
it was always an creepy yet calming design to look at.

AHH THIS IS SO PRETTY! gosh howl's moving castle was the first ghibli movie I ever watched, everything in that movie is so great. I especially love that scene when howl comes back in his bird form and is sitting in front of the furnace with calcipher

i have traveled a long way, perhaps a year or two,
after watching a sinful moving picture by the name of 'howls moving castle'.
It has been 84 years after trying to get over it...

colors, brushes, technique?

oh gosh, all of the above? I dont wanna be a bother or anything but I just love how painterly it looks!~

Oh boy that's a big question;;;
hmm let's see if I can some it up.
colors - Usually when I pick light source it's generally indirect lighting, not direct lighting e.g. the sun. Darker color hues go counter clock wise.
lighter hues go clock wise. e.g. yellow shirt, so greenish lighting and orangish shade. which is one of the principles i applied to this piece for example!
brushes - I follow by instinct so this is hard for me to explain but i mimic like a thick watercolor look, i usually use flat brushes.
technique - again this is something i follow by instinct. I follow the worldwide, sketch, clean up, base color, render, touch up.
except once i finish base color i 1-2 layer technique where i render and touch up everyone in a couple layers. honestly i rarely
ever do something fancy with a bunch of clipping layers and overlay, i just do what looks good to me haha.
i'm not the best person to ask. but dont worry, everything takes time and practice! it look me 1 year (practicing every single day ) to develop a paintery style
from a anime lineart style. i hope this helps. good luck, hun!
