wow this piece had become one of my favorites i really enjoyed painting this one.it was originally just a warm up but then it was really fun to paint it, and for the first time in a long time
i've started to enjoy my art again.
anyhow! i feel like if i was a crystal gem, my gemsona would be ^^^ except i dont have my gem HAH

ahh yeah zombie skin looks so cool! how do you normally choose the colors you want to shade skin with? is it by random and choose whatever looks best, or do you have a certain relationship between colors you're looking for?

mmmm, usually it depends on the mood i'm trying to convey.
gray skin is common for me because it looks different in certain hues of lighting. the gray color can then become
a shadow, lighting or a starting skin tone. also you can bring out certain tones and color with such a neutral color.
(i usually start most gray skinned artworks by coloring the character in gray completely before adding tones)
i find that sliding your bar on the the selected skin color tone is fine but it makes it kind of bland since real skin
in all types of lighting doesn't fade so simply... unless you're in a extremely well lit white room (which is rare).
the only time i'll ever use actual skin colors are for simpler drawings like comics or apps for groups.
1) so people can have a reference of the skin tone, therefore being able to experiment with a characters skin already (lighting/shading/ect.)
2 ) having neutral gray skin in works often require a ridiculous amount of blending and different colors to show life and
definition in the body (depending on your style). while a more fleshy skin color can be cell shaded with a more darker and saturated skin color, gray may fall
a little further depending on your style. esp if you want them to look alive hahaha
gray is a fun color to use but there are a lot of colors to add tones to, start with or shade with such as a deep red color for the skin. therefore lighter colors stand out.
even try blue skin and mix it with opposing (such as orange) and complementary (such as yellow) colors and you get a wicked
piece of art. the character itself doesn't particularly need to have blue skin to experiment with them, it's kinda like pop art!
once you experiment with color, you wont believe how much better of a grasp you will get with
definition, tone, blending and a knowledge in color.
this is super long but i'd rather give you a thorough explanation to help you learn as efficiently as you can!

Ah thank you! This helps so much. I guess I never really considered first starting out in grayscale and then adding colors.
I've been trying to experiment with more colors in the skin recently because I discovered that I really only know how to shade one particular color of skin and everyone's skin is a different color so I thought I needed to branch out more

wow i am loving your colour style esp along the hands and face like really amazing use of colour i am so oftern pulled into using only two skin colours but im seeing purples and pinks and greys such pretty art! <3

thank you!! yes, using two tones seems like something i will occasionally
resort to coloring skin back to. you would be surprised how much
more fun it is to use different shades and patterns in your artwork is!
