The origins of this entity remain a mystery, as the world learned of its existence as it was breaching the atmosphere. It obviously came from the space, but no one can say from which direction or how it even traveled through that endless void. It plunged from the sky and immediately spread terror and havoc upon the local populace. The military was quick to swoop in and engage the entity, but this first assault came to a horrifying end when the creature "activated." Planes fell from the sky, tanks were left empty and smoldering, and the barren earth was littered with smoking guns and charred uniforms. Hundreds perished in the incident, and everyone was forced to fall back and rethink their strategy. Evacuations of surrounding cities and towns was the immediate action, displacing thousands of citizens as they fled the path of the beast. This first order became the sole one, as skirmishes failed to bring down the entity and more were forced to flee. For some, their lives have become nothing but a constant retreat, desperately trying to escape this looming doomsday. They ran when the Searing Spiral first arrived, and they have been running ever since.

The military has given the entity this name due to its main method of destruction. Some label this action as an "attack" while others in the science community wonder if it has another purpose. Regardless of what it means to the Spiral, everyone else sees it as their worst nightmare. While traveling, the Searing Spiral uses its twin tails to slither across the landscape, and its "eye" remains closed. The mass of tendrils and tentacles wrap around one another and obscure the eye, twining together into some twisted mask. In this state, it focuses solely on reaching its next target, ignoring any outside forces that do not pose an immediate threat. If it is attacked, or if it reaches a densely populated area, the Searing Spiral will "activate." The facial tendrils unfurl and it rears up with bizarre flair. Its body spins and its limbs dance, as its "eye" is revealed and the horror begins. When its swirling eye lights up and its torturous performance begins, a strange force is emitted. Those who gaze upon Spiral during this "activated" state will become immobilized, almost entranced. Their eyes cannot look away, and their limbs fail to respond to their screaming brain. It is said that those who are really far away or have a partially obscured view of the Spiral can fight back against the effect, but it is no easy feat. Theirs eyes will still refuse to break contact, so one has to move themselves in a position where they cannot see the entity. Their bodies, however, will be sluggish and heavy, with some survivors claiming it was like they were moving in mud. Those with a clear view or in close vicinity, unfortunately, are unable to escape on their own. While it may seem smart for those free of the effect to go in and help these trapped souls, this is not advised. Cruel as it may seem, it is best to leave them to their fate and try to save yourself. Even though one is not caught by the binding force, what is released shortly after spares no one.

Moments after the activation has begun, Searing Spiral will begin to emit some kind of signal or energy that affects all organisms within its range. It appears that it has the most drastic effect on living tissue, while other types of organic matter receive a reduced amount. When exposed to the signal, the bodies of the victim will begin to heat up from the inside. Their internal temperature will begin to rise, its pace decided by how close they are to the Spiral. In the first few moments, it will feel like one is under the effects of a nasty fever, but it does not stay at this stage for long. Their internal temperature will continue to climb, and their flesh will begin to cook itself from the inside out. Waters and fluids will boil, skin and muscle will burn, all while the trapped victim is unable to move an inch. In this state, they cannot fight and they cannot scream, even as their bones smolder and their flesh chars. Even when death mercifully takes them, the bodies will continue to burn and boil, eventually dissipating into swirls of ash and steam. How fast this fate befalls the victim depends on their distance to the Spiral. Those free of its entrancing gaze may have the chance to flee from the burning aura, though they will often receive a full body scalding before they can truly escape its grip. Within minutes, all life within the area will be reduced to dust and vapor, and the Searing Spiral shall cease its performance. It will then slither towards the next populated area, leaving behind a wasteland and the scorched stains of its victims.

The signal or effect that Searing Spiral releases is still a puzzlement to researchers. Though the victims are cooked alive in their own bodies, the temperature of the air and surrounding area does not change. Inorganic substances are unaffected by the signal, the only damage coming from the flames that sear away living flesh. This means that many buildings, structures and vehicles remain intact after the Searing Spiral moves through the area, creating ghost towns of barren earth and burnt spirits. Due to its effects, some theorize that the Spiral is releasing some type of microwave that causes organic matter to react in such a way. Others are not so sure, as the results from this signal are quite extreme and inorganic matter should have some type of reaction to these waves. The other theory is that the signal is capable of releasing the internal energy of organic matter, activating all the stores at once to create such damage. Its entrancing image has also eluded explanation, as it has been found that the "eye" isn't the sole creator of this effect. Even viewing the Searing Spiral from behind will result in this entrancement, as a view from any angle can trap a person. The only escape is too avoid eye contact and to run as far as possible as fast as one can.
