Description We build idols so that we may gaze upon the visage of our gods and worship them. We create them to remind us of the powers above that control our lives and destiny. We give them gifts, we give them prayer. To many, these are mere representations of those we follow, but that is not their true purpose. To the wizened few, these great statues and monuments are meant to serve as vessels. Empty shells that can give flesh to those who have ascended beyond such simple things. We give them emptiness, in hopes that those above may make them whole. What better blessing is there, then to be in the presence of one of the formless great ones?

Though such a visit is tempting to many, it is not something so easily done. Not all idols are worthy of such a gift. Statues built of shoddy materials and crafted by petty tools can never truly hold such a power. A visage born of cheap craftsmanship and simple wants will never tempt them to visit our mortal plane. It must be a vessel of true worth. One built of blood, sweat and tears, and perhaps of a little something else. Substances drained from other vessels, materials born from the dark and damp. Sculpted by faithful hands and reverent minds. That is a vessel truly worthy of those above, but only if they are the ones to see it first. Empty husks are tempting to any who are without flesh, and it may draw in those who are not so wise or noble.

Be wary of those who seek the fleshless beyond, as not everyone worships the same gods as you do...

That ain't boring old candle wax!

The god that inhabited this vessel must either really love or really hate it, because it comes as close as possible to properly representing him or the maker of this idol was quite nearsighted.
either way, it looks flipping scary!

Hopefully it is a god that is possessing it, and not some other horrid being from beyond! Religious artifacts built to reach beyond the veil have a nasty tendency of bringing out the worst beings possible. And thanks!

Even then, it may be a malicious god at that... or a malicious yet incompetent one.
I wonder if somebody in the world of the Knight started their own religion with their own religious artifacts, if that would still summon a dark deity or something of the like. Maybe their belief in a certain God births them, or the God in question manipulates them via their imagination and mind to start a religion dedicated to them and broaden his influence in that world.
No problem, dude!

Such a thing could go several ways, but all would require the religion to gain a good amount of followers and faith. Faith and magic energy are things that can draw the attention of things beyond. One way it could go is that the religion offers enough faith and mana that something that isn't picky on its form notices them and appears. In scenarios where experimental magic and crazed minds are present, one may achieve the ability to create the "God" of their visions, but it would be a chaotic and unstable being that is more abomination than god. The last one you mention is perfectly viable, as some entity finds a group of willing followers and slowly manipulates them into focusing their worship on it. The realm that Yir comes from is rife with higher beings, so there is no end to the potential deities or entities that could arrive. Even then, there are other realms out there that are home to even more horrid things.

I see. It all sounds really cool, man! thanks for explaining it
the writer Terry Pratchett has toyed a bit with that last idea in his book series, especially in the book Reaper Man. the story is basically that because of the numerous depictions of Dead as a person and interpretations of what his personality is like in the world it takes place in, this belief has become so strong that Death has grown a bit of a personality himself, albeit lightly. Some sort of group of caretakers of the universe have decided to fire him of his job and give him "time to live" so to say, as personalities are inefficient and unnecessary for forces of nature to have. Unfortunately the temporary absence of Death leads to an overdose of life energy that can't go anywhere, resulting in a rather absurd tale...
something along those lines.

Thanks! Glad to hear the textures came out alright! Wasn't really sure how to draw something like ear wax.

Yeah, not the easiest thing to convey, but his grosser, drippier parts should get that feeling of disgust across regardless!
