Description
The Xthol are one of the many demon species that populate the underworld ruled by Ze'Rorick. Though there are numerous demon types, Xthol are seen as the "first demons" and their names literally translate into the human word "demon." These creatures are composed of a constantly swirling vortex of liquefied flesh (Much like the rotting, melted flesh of Ze'Rorick's "cloak"), with numerous eyes and appendages sprouting from the stream. Their central mouth is capable of rotating at extreme speeds, allowing them to shred opponents and sinners alike. The role of the Xthol is to protect the Underworld from invaders and escapees, as well as coming to the surface to devour sinners and send their souls to the darkness below. When in battle, Xthol can create limbs and claws to slash and tear at opponents, and their mouths can fire a variety of spells and blasts. Their signature move is to grow a series of claws and blades along their bodies, and fling themselves at opponents as they spin rapidly, turning their bodies into organic buzz saws. Of all the demons, only the Xthol are capable of fighting a Svlranix, which usually results in a stalemate.Tales say that the Xthol and Svlranix are actually half beings, with the Xthol being the dark side and the Svlranix being the light. It is said that each Xthol is somehow connected to a certain Svlranix, and visa versa. Should an Xthol or Svlranix be defeated or killed (a rare, but not impossible event) their respective half will suffer as well. This way it is impossible for either heaven or hell to defeat the other, as their armies of demons and angels will always be balanced. But that also means that the two respective halves are capable of recombining together, forming the original creatures that lived before they were split in two. It is unknown how this fusion can take place, with some claiming only the Gods can allow it to happen, and others saying that the Gods actually fight to keep it from ever happening. All can agree, though, that if the armies of heaven and hell where to combine together again, chaos and devastation would quickly follow. No one, not even the Gods, can be sure of the actions of beings who are neutral in good and evil, and possess the powers of both.

A fascinating theology, and in fact grounded in physics! Really cool drawing too.
