Description
In this life, nothing is ideal, its a series of small events, movements, instances, that come together. You try and capture it as it is, not how you'd like it to be. We're all leashed. We're all Bound. The Ringmaster calls the shots, be it whoever you think it is: god, fate, destiny, science, nothingness. Who is at the end of the rope; does it lead you to or from the subject? its all interpretation. There is no such thing as perfection in real life. Most things never come close. I do not desire to have perfect images. If i wanted that, I would hole up and do studio work. When working with wild animals, even those being paraded around on a stage, they control you. You record what you see. There is no use in any of that. That is my stand on things.
I bring you what I see and what want to portray. Please, dissect my concepts all you want, I love to hear what you have to say.
Thank You for your time,
love,
deir.
Technicals:
Secondary Category: Conceptual
Tertiary Category: Darkroom
Where: Naples Zoo, Florida.
What: Clouded leopard? maybe maybe not. It may have started with an S. I shall go back and see.
Hardware: canon 300d, tamron 70-300 lens. ISO 1600 i think.
Post Processing, reduction of all the channels except yellow and a touch of red. Contrast adjusted. Hence the noise. and no film grain or texture grain, because that doesnt look nice.
I have some film shots hopefully. i'll develop them soon.

Ahw, such a great animal, leashed.. It's a great shot though, especially by the grey-ish noise, that really gives the pic an impressive look.

I definitely love this shot. It really makes the viewer focus on the leopard, almost delve deeper into his world. The first thing I thought of was this is how another leopard might actually see him. It also reminded me of those shots in movies where the photographers want you to get a sense of reality by making the shots look.....well, just like this! lol ( A good example is from the, movie, Dracula) Grrrr, I don't know how to explain it, except to say, excellent job!

An amazing photograph- the digital post processing seems akin to the diffusion effect of the noise adds to the stand-out-ishness of the leopard. The colour reduction also plays well to the overall effect of the photograph.
An interesting note: at 1600 ASA/ISO, the picture would be grainier at that enlargement size when using a film camera. I would guess that a picture with such high speed film would needs be enlarged to about 4x6 and then scanned and digitaly enlarged.

Thankyou so much : ). I am really proud of this shot. Every time I see it, I find myself stumbling...
: ) I'm not entirely sure what the diffusion effect is, but, : ) thankyou.
It looks beautiful in greyscale as well, i was playing around with it in MS Word (yes, word. lol) in my computer class when i was bored.
I just don't have the heart to choose one or the other
Hmmm, Even grainier? i wish i got it on film
my shots with film came out pretty iffy. I don't have AF, so i'm slow, hehehe. and i had 200 film in there. actually i have to look again, i only looked quick
but i'd love it even granier
3200 film is like, my dream film

This is so good. I really like it.
The textures on the animal is making this so interesting , you can see so much in it. And the cool volors in the background makes the animal come forward.
If you look really close, and think alot, the animal looks so sad. Like it's missing something/someone. Or just dont want to be were it is.
The fucus is really nice. It gives all the attention to the animal. And makes your eyes rest on the important part of the picture.
Really a good job Deirdra.

You're so welcome. You really deserve it hunnybunny.
It might just look sad because of the heads position. I dont know. But I'm glad it's a happy animal.

wow, this is fantastic.
i agree with the general consesus so far...the grain works well here. and i really really love the chain...it intertwines so well with your concept (nice description btw). and the body language almost seems to echo that feeling as well...that he (or she, rather) is chained, controlled. i love the curve of the body as well...and the contrast on the white belly is fabulous. it really pops. i've always loved leopards and the beautiful patterns they have. just beautiful. i love everything about it! and i totally agree with your words on perfection...especially when it comes to nature. it's so unexpected, but that's what makes it beautiful.
