Description This was a rare find. ATSF ordered a set of GP60Ms in 1990 a few years before merger talks began, and this one managed to make it through the "repainting program" (or lack thereof). Even though it sports "BNSF" on the long hood, it retains its original "Santa Fe" on the nose, and the original three-digit road number given to it from the start (#102). This unit is still in revenue service down around the Stockton, CA area.

Behind that, a rebuilt GP53u, and a slew of various other old EMD traction from days gone by.

Bringing back the borders on my images because it just feels right with them.

Excellent image.  The colors and details are spot on.  Seeing that many locomotives all packed together is always nice to see.

Thanks! I haven't been around there in awhile (probably over a year), but it never fails to disappoint, even when it's "empty" (and even then it usually has a few oldies in it).

I actually remember seeing GP60M #100 at Mid America just before she got BNSF's Wedge scheme applied to it. It was the first and only time i've seen a warbonnet GP60M.

Ah, the colorful side of BNSF.

Those units on the second row back with the extended cab roofs... are they ex-Canadian...?

Yup. 6977 is ex-CN 5003, and the other four are in the same batch. Interesting that they've all been kept in the same general grouping together.

Interesting indeed. I wonder if the lengthened roofs were designed for better rear visibility in snowy weather...?  Perhaps such a feature would come in handy on some corners of the BNSF.

I'm not sure, I'll have to do some digging on that. It would make it easier to see running long-hood forward, but I doubt they did that very much up north with the weather being what it is.

BNSF sold off #6977 to WatCo a few years back --> www.rrpicturearchives.net/show…

I agree with you, the border makes it look more classy.

Well, sure, but I do it mainly because it seems to give the image a little bit better separation from the rest of the page. I wouldn't include them on printed stock, since matting takes care of that, but for online purposes...yeah.
