Description
Normally, I try not to submit material out of sequence, but it's time to revisit the Beep again. ~Silverwolf-1ofmany reminded me of some shots I took a few months back while at the BNSF Topeka maintenance yard. For those of you not familiar with the Beep, check out this older shot for some reference information.
Here, ex-ATSF SW-BLW #1460 switches a CEFX AC4400CW leaser in the yard on a nice and sunny summer day. Her EMD 567 was chuggin' right along, and it seemed like she was in relatively good shape for her age and previous history.
And yes, those Blomberg trucks are huge on her chassis...

Yep. It's long gone now, but the California Rail Museum houses it now, and it's kept up relatively well.

Hopefully when this loco does get retired a museum will nab it.

It already was snapped up by a museum in California.

it is fun to see the 'one offs' that are created from shop rebuilds

Yeah, it's a rare sight to behold. When I first saw it, I didn't really know what I was looking at because it was hard to see from above. When I went to label the photo afterward, I was kind of taken aback because it hadn't registered yet what I'd seen until then. When I went back to see it the second time, I was all over it.
At least I can say I've seen it in action while in revenue service.

Nice to hear that they saved her and didn't scrap her. I'll have to go see her one day.

Now that she is being retired, I hope she will end up in a museum that will continue to use it.

I'm not too sure what will happen. I'd like to think BNSF would be true to her heritage and put her somewhere practical, but my pragmatic side likes to think that the chances of that happening are small.

I thought that she went to the California Railway Museum, but that was a couple months ago so I'm not sure.

Wow, I would have been really surprised to see a high-nose end-cab like that anywhere, even though I know little about diesels... but considering the exta history behind that unit, I'm really surprised it's still around! What a neat-looking machine. And great shot of it.

From what I've heard, she pulls better and loads better on those Blombergs than most GP38s would, and I'd think she gets into tighter spaces better than an SD40 would.

I hope when her time does finally come that they send her to a museum and not the scrapyard...
