Description No, the world isn't ending in this shot. Aliens are not coming to blast us with green lasers, and Will Smith will not pilot a shitty FA-18 Hornet and beat invaders with obviously superior technology (nor will Jeff Goldblum manage to write an intergalactically compatible computer virus). Though it does kinda resemble the clouds that formed from the alien ships in the movie, doesn't it?

This is a small storm that didn't really get big enough to support itself. Formed in southwest Wichita County, Kansas, it migrated south/southeast into Finney County, and skirted west of Garden City, and the airport (to the southeast of town).

In this shot, the storm has outgrown its own ability to support itself, as evidenced by the underdeveloped and overextended updraft. It's still big enough to dump some moisture, but not much, and nothing else. It eventually fell apart entirely and vanished into thin air, from whence it came.

This is the companion shot to Cloudburst .

Who needs aliens on other planets when we have a Star right in front of us?

I suppose that's true, but I think this is a more dramatic shot.

That's probably one of the coolest cloud pictures I've seen. It reminds me of a giant Man o'War in the sky. Wicked.

Wow beautiful shot! I love the structure of the storm clouds and warm colors of the sky. The rays of sun behind the cloud though really pull it all together and give it that sense of peace

I take it you're really not a fan of the campy, patriotic, sci-fi goodness that is the movie "Independence Day"?

Oh, I love the movie, but it just seems to get hokier and hokier every time I watch it.

In all fairness, they *did* establish that the aliens borrowed technology as they went and were using ours against us, which helped just a bit with the whole computer virus thing. Me, I love the movie -- but then, when it comes to entertainment I'm easy.

Oh, I love the movie, I just like making fun of it anymore. It gets hokier and hokier every time I watch it.
