My friends and I are planning to railfan this spot this weekend. Usually we're at the spot at Craig (where the Shawnee Mission Park Trail crosses underneath the Transcon), but we'd figure we try a different location.

I've shot at CP Craig several times. Great location, but the lighting can be horrifically bad if the sun's in a bad spot. Holliday is either all or nothing most of the time anymore.

Especially late evening when westbound trains are approaching, but for the most part whenever he head there we usually have a good day, lighting and train traffic wise.

Yeah, it's a place I need to hit up again in the future to play around with more angles. I live up in Merriam now near 67th, so I'll be shooting around the Fort Scott Sub a lot more than anything else since it's literally four blocks from my house.

I'm in Lenexa so I'm smack dab in the middle between the Ft Scott Sub and the Transcon. XD

I've only been living in the KC area about 3 years, but I've been "foaming" around up here for the better part of about 9 years now. I used to live out west in Hays, KS where the only action there was UP's Sharon Springs sub, and down in Garden City (my hometown) off the ATSF La Junta sub. So all this action is pretty overwhelming to me at times.

Been in the KC for about year and a half now. Lived in Florida for most of my live, but never did much railfanning there because in my mind, railroads don't exist south of Jacksonville (except for the FEC of course). The only action I could really get was close to me was at Plant City where the ex-ACL A-Line crosses the ex-SAL S-Line to Tampa, so I have the same feeling when I'm out here.

Well, take a look at this map --> maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=2…

I put that together a few years back to keep track of where I've been and haven't been, and thus far I'm always adding to it. There are thousands of places around the metro to hit up for action, especially downtown and up northeast and out by Blue Springs. Just watch the neighborhoods you venture into the further east you go.

What time you guys going out this weekend? I might be able to swing an hour or two out by CP Holliday or by Argentine.

I am going to mark that in my favorites. That's gonna come in handy.

We're not exactly sure yet. We usually like to be out by 10, but sometimes we wait until 1 when the lunch shift is over.

Depends on the day. Sundays are surprisingly busier than expected, and Saturdays, most work seems to wrap up around 2 or 3 (at least in the yard).

For the most part we go railfanning on Saturdays because we tend to have better luck on those days, but unless something comes up we do have a good share of luck on Sundays too.
