chests of nuts in stories treasured
nuts that flowed down mountain slopes
rivers that flowed to mighty seas
down your backbone.

a perfect portrait
of faces animated and the passage of time,
of dancers swirling, twirling, curling,
into the folds of their arms
of the sounds of a hymn
hummed;
to pull through a haughty night

for saints of wisdom
grew distraught,
and poets of feelings
were ever so sane.
I'd have it all in a handful yet
let it all out
to ignite being with the hint of a flame.
