***********************************************

Past a chamber filled with broken inn furnishings, clothing, and discarded detritus, the figure shambles into a room filled with deceptive death, where the corpses of once-living people hang in cocooning cords now super-saturated with the non-life energy of Demon sorcery. Ignoring the trophies of recent captures in the near corner, the charred hulk rears up on ruined knees and raises its claw-like hands into the stale air of the chamber. "Velsi Alzaro Venix," the figure speaks aloud through lungs and throat that are little more than brittle sack and straw, but the words ring with the power of sorcery programmed into the chamber itself, and the whole scene of shadow and stone echoes the call with a single, building note.

Then, heralded by the shivering sound of sandpaper and the flutter of moth wings, clouds of dust, hair, rope, and bone fragments break off of the assembly of un-life hanging from the ceiling and drift downward in a whirlpool to merge with the charred figure. The thing buckles and twists, bubbles of newly-formed tissue spreading over limb and abdomen, all wrapped in layer upon layer of rope dripping with magic. "The Bookbinding is broken," the figure speaks again through lungs and throat made strong and new. "The Binding can now begin."

***********************************************

I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag, that the Hellbinder is finally in town. faile35.deviantart.com/art/Upc… . I had a lot of fun with this one, and there's not really even a beautiful woman in it. Now, it's time to catch some glimpses of the past seven chapters from a rather different point of view...

Enjoy!

Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Did Dead Albert just say the magical words that will cause chaos and terror....yep, that'll be "binding begin"...woohoo!
Superb artwork as always - love the depth given by the stance, can't wait for more. 😀

Because I'm evil! Evil, evil, evil! I'm the evilest eviler of evil that ever was!

....and also because a pun left unsaid lies in the centre of your brain festering, until you either find some barely relevant context in which to finally discharge it, or yield up your imagination and sense of humour entirely, and start supporting Conservative politics.

You are indeed, sir.

Oh yeah, I know that ... happens ever so often. It's the same with jokes, both good and bad.
But going conservative is too extreme for me in any case ... those people really scare me.

Aaahhh, so that's what that old sketch leads to. A bondage demon, how about that? It would be funny to see him go on a rampage through the city streets, tying up every nubile maiden in town.

Ah, no, grasshopper! I do recall overhearing a conversation at a fetish night not so very long ago during which some newly-minted rope master, seemingly high on hemp in one form or another, informed the would-be target of his attentions that the other term for shibari was kin-book-ku. Does that qualify?

Megalomaniacal gloating clearly agrees with Ultra Jervil here as he looks like he's having the time of his life.

The last line sounds promising.

With Elina right around the corner, practically waiting to be the first one bound, who wouldn't think the horizon is bright. Although, I doubt that 'The Binding' stops with the sexy librarian and, maybe, the hot blond rogue.

A bright horizon indeed.

What interests me ... aside from the very real possibility of 'Elina' and 'binding' being used in the same sentence ... is what our friend means by "let the Binding begin." Is if reasonable to assume the Demon has not laid out all these elaborate plans just for the sole purpose of snaring one sexy librarian, or might he have bigger fish to fry?

Dude, it's okay, they're only ropes! Well, they're ropes that move like snakes. Well, and they kind of think like snakes, too. And, yeah, they look like snakes. And, if you put enough of them together to make a floor rug, they even bite like snakes.

Yeah, okay, better keep crying...

"Velsi Alzaro Venix," the figure speaks aloud..." Hey! I thought you said on page 44 that you didn't need words to work sorcery! Jervil you fug-ugly undead megalomaniacal-deluded demonic *liar*.....

Meanwhile elsewhere in the undercellar Elina checks her watch and realizes "oh my, look at the time! Better call it a day and go home now... so many errands to run..."... if only.

That said I like this image, a nice callback to faile35.deviantart.com/art/Cat…. He seems to have the raising the outstretched arms while gazing to the heavens in triumph while making gloating declarations down pretty good...

faile35 In reply to White-Feather [2014-04-05 01:19:25 +0000 UTC]

You are very astute, indeed! There may be an inconsistency here, but it could just be that he's speaking the key phrase that triggers the sorceries he locked into the place over the past few years. It would still perhaps be an inconsistency, since he had no guarantee that what was left of him or whatever form he might take in the future would be able to actually speak the key words aloud. But it's less of a blatant problem given what the little guy said on Page44.

Regarding the hands raised and gazing upwards while gloating, I was all ready and scheduled to have the lone gremlin do that when he was finishing his tying of Elina in the cage back in Coils of Fate, but I realized it just wouldn't quite have the same punch if the gloater was only as tall as his captive's shin... "Tee-hee-chitter-chitter, now I'm all powerful!!!!" doesn't quite carry the same mood as it seems to here.

Also, it is rather unfortunate that Elina came prepared with her magic, refilling teapot, else she would be regularly slipping out and up to the surface to refill it and might likely miss all the trouble to come... "Gee, I don't know what could have happened, Luther! I just had to refill the teapot here--all that research is rather taxing, you know--and when I came back with some steeping earl grey, the whole place had just gone quiet. And collapsed. Too bad, isn't it? Ah well. I think I'm going to go get ready for my date. Good luck with the whole problem-solving thing..."

Yeah, it does seem to be a more effective and menacing/dramatic pose when the guy is more than two feet tall... any less than that and it's just... dude, do you have any idea how ridiculous you look?...

I personally am inclined to believe that either he is not always as honest as he seemingly likes to pretend to be in the name of keeping folk on their toes, or perhaps even Jervil is/was unsure of exactly how far his powers extend at times (perhaps it was not always consistant, due to being locked up and limited by the physical form he resided in) or how much energy might be needed and thus was prepared for quick-&-dirty back-up measures/plan B.
