What Jervil discovered through his minions' searches into the city was that he and his "colony" of psychic fragments of the Demon were far from being the only Others in Dernhem. The alluring shadow of death and terror that he knew as the Dream Stalker was present within the city, called into the realm as an extension of the darkened soul of a young courtesan whose lavish home was not far from the Fair Harvest. It was a place Jervil knew from his earliest experiences in Anjerome Villios' body, but while that memory spoke of a woman's accidental death at the hands of the psychic fragment who was barely learning the tastes and hungers of humanity, the rat-man's minions found instead a creature with a cultivated taste for killing on a whim.
Not a gremlin nor jackrat survived the discovery, and more disturbing was the fact that, as the shade summoned by the whispering courtesan, the Dream Stalker had the ability to disrupt the Demon's psychic fragments, draining or obliterating them entirely. Jervil realized that this creature not only threatened the completion of the Bookbinding, but his continued existence as well. As a result, he dispatched Callista with the intention of drawing his own enemies to discover the deadly courtesan and deal with the Dream Stalker themselves.

As always, Annalae was drawn using reference material provided by Lindsey. She gave me so much good material with some really creepy lighting and facial expressions. Thanks, Lindsey!
Enjoy!
Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Just a little typo: "Jervil knew from his earliest experiences Anjerome Villios' body..." Looks like you're missing an "in" or something. Loving the story! Can't stop reading!

Thanks for the heads up, and for the compliments! I've just finished the calendar work and am now getting back into this storyline, probably for the duration until it's done.

So Annalae's got a connection with the Dream Stalker, worked for the Demon and is currently 'devoted' to the Harbinger. She certainly has attracted the attention of a fair number of otherworldly beings, although one can see why. Although I have my suspicions as to what her level of devotion is. Seems like a case of happening to be chained up next to Drea more than anything else.
While it may have been meant for the Dream Stalker, the phrase alluring shadow certainly fits Annalae herself. She certainly comes off as very dark here. After seeing her in Elina's vision, it's easy to forget that she's not a very nice person.
Looking forward to seeing what happens when one alluring shadow meets another one.

My first thoughts on seeing this image were "WHAT DID SHE DO TO THAT POOR TRIBBLE??!" But seriously, very cool image. Love Anna's "come hither, if you dare" expression. Her half-open bathrobe contrasts nicely with her hair too. And I agree with White-Feather and Snigom: I dig her letter-opener!

Cool, I figured that your next stage would be explaining how the cat-witch got involved.

Okay. Wow. I always look forward to the 'new' image as you known, but this one definitely snapped my head up in a big hurry! I'm in complete agreement with several of the previous commenters ... I love how this image completely captures the essence of Annalae. I'd been very much looking forward to Valerin's 'return' and hadn't even considered Anna'd be next up; safe to say the expression here is quite an effective way of her saying "don't overlook me next time," lol. And potentially as engaging as the image itself is the unfolding of the Callista/Annalae partnership, which I'm now eagerly anticipating.

Nice knife. And I have to agree with the comment below that this is a good snapshot of Anna when she was still at her best/in control...

This has got to be in my top 10 favorite DD images. I wish you'd do one of these "character-specific movie poster"s for every woman!

Also, when you say "drawing his own enemies to discover the deadly courtesan", does that mean he considers Callista as an enemy...?

Awesome scene blocking and arrangement. Her face has that subtle expression that suggests a certain mindless pleasure in the situation.
Question, why did you happen to choose that knife design? Typically, lobed knife design is typical of a military grade knife for the expressed purpose of quickly killing people. However, the picture appears more ritual. Just curiosity at work here, not criticism. Heck, in many of my drawings I pick any old blade without any fore thought as to why

Thank you for the comment and the compliments! Regarding the knife, it was the one that Lindsey had in the reference photo, and I fell in love with the whole image, including the knife. So, it's here. Regarding any inappropriateness of the knife's designs in this situation, let's just say that given the courtesan's Other-induced, trauma-aggravated killing sense, she wanted a weapon of her own that would be fun to use.
