As the four new phantoms made their slow, programmed way from the Mirror Chamber into the Chamber of Fadings, Jervil stood in their midst contemplating his options. All too quickly he sensed something occurring in the inn upstairs, and very soon thereafter Callista and Annalae, the Cat Shade ever looming behind her, intruded on his thoughts in alarm. "The Magistrate has come!" Callista claimed. "She's brought the entire Watch with her, and they're upstairs right now placing the entire inn under arrest."
"They won't stop there, either," Annalae added with some venom. "It's as the Seeress warned*: 'They'll come for you above and below.'"
Jervil pondered the meaning of the statement only a moment before responding--the Cat Witch was quite limited in her understanding of the visionary gift and its workings. "The Seeress' warning speaks not of the Watch intruding on us down here, but of something else, or someone else." Turning to Annalae, he spoke even while his mind considered the steps ahead of them. "You will go to the Cistern Room on the far end of the Rat Maze and there await whoever comes at us from that direction. With fair Callista's help, I will see to the inn's defense myself."
"I don't trust you, vermin-bastard," the Cat Witch spat back. Beside her, Callista nodded.
"The Magistrate's wearing her Countermail," the thief added.
Jervil smiled at the blond woman. "Such trust is irrelevant, as is the Magistrate's Countermail against a foe like myself. The time of Albert Fiskerne's establishment has drawn to an end, and my preparations will suffice for our defense. However, I will require aid with the Witchwax candles to create and detonate the Catalyst Rune."
Grumbling and without comprehending, the two women agreed.

Deirdre's and Zirena's stock models have already been identified, but Avora's model has not.
Enjoy!
Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this image was how much it reminded me of seeing MMA fighters or pro boxers entering the arena before a big fight, surrounded by their coterie of groupies. Given the circumstances, I suppose that such a description is not inaccurate. Oh well, at least Jervil and Drea would probably come in at around the same weight!
The next thing that struck me , once again, was how much of a change there has been in the way you've drawn the captives, especially Deirdre.I was not that excited by her before, but how things have changed! I don't know if it's purely down to your considerable improvement as an artist since you first drew her (and the rest of them), or if the new stock images provided by Viator- Defessus and his comely model have also served to inspire you, but she's definitely moved to a whole other plane of hotness! In the immortal words of Jimi Hendrix: "You make me want to get up and scream! Ooooh! Foxy Lady!"
The most interesting thing for me,to come out of this page, and the last few that proceeded it, is a sense of how close Jervil came to actually succeeding at what he was trying to accomplish. If Drea's arrival had been delayed by a day or two, no more, I'm pretty sure he that he might have learned enough from his captives to, if not ensure, then greatly improve his chances of triumphing. Add to that the possibility of him using the womb-draining rune to "power up" from Deirdre and Zirena, and he might have been able to force through Drea's quickening. As it is, you've got to give the little bugger serious props for adaptability and improvisation under extreme duress. Rats, however disgusting, are a hardy and successful species, and he sure is living up to his "heritage", so to speak.
Given that Annalae's and Callsta's captures, both of which heavily involved Jervil, have been detailed so deliciously and extensively in their respective chapters, would it be fair to assume that the narrative will skip ahead to what transpired between Jervil and Annalae after the end of Catcall, or are we headed somewhere else? Or should I just shut up and be patient (not my strong suit!)

I just posted the Jervil-viewpoint-image of the detonation of the inn and capture of Callista. After that, we move to Annalae, Elina again, and Drea, then back to Callista for the long-awaited "What the hell happened at the end of Coils of Fate?!" revelation, and then to the end of Jervil's account. For a slight deviation and detour, this turned into more of a TOUR than a "de-" anything. But I think it has rounded out and solidified the story well enough for anyone looking at this and asking themselves, "Which is it: Does this Faile35 guy know where the story is heading, or is he just looking for an excuse to draw all these babes in distress...? (The answer, of course, is "Yes!" ).
Regarding Deirdre, the model in question was the first of Viator-Defessus ' arrangements that caught my eye and filled me with a great deal of hope that I could redo the first three chapters effectively. And, while I agree with you about the improvement in my drawing skills (thank you for that, as well), a lot of the improvement has actually been in the amount of patience I can bring to each page AND the digital side of things. Since halfway through the original Rats I started working with mixed media, ink and graphite, but while doing Catcall that became "ink and graphite and Photoshop" to the extent that I've considered categorizing these things differently (more in the digital categories) than before. Because of this, I'm not too concerned about revising the parts of Fair Harvest that include Callista along with Vision Impaired and Bare Necessities--I think the raw traditional potential is there to work with, and I'll be able to make up a lot of the difference with Photoshop.
And finally, "In this corner, weighing in at 128 pounds, defender of the title to the Undercellar, and undisputed champion of sorcery and general kinky bizarreness, Jervil 'The Demon' Johnson!"
"And in this corner, weighing in at an indeterminate weight because of her armor, the challenger and Magistrate of the city of Dernhem, Drea 'Bollocks-Blaster' Aliandis!"
"Let's get ready to rumble!
Thanks a bunch!

And thus it all comes full circle. Nice.
For an ugly little creep he sure has a way with the ladies. Maybe he just has an incredibly smooth voice.

I've imagined him sounding a lot like Bing Crosby. I don't know why, really--possibly because I find "Bing" to be a silly name...
Thanks! In my best Darth Vader voice, I feel like saying, "The circle is now complete."

Jervil: "No dammit, it's step, step, kick, shimmy the hips THEN pirouette! And Ghost-Zirena, you keep crowding Ghost-Val and throwing off her rhythm. C'mon people, it's simple choreography, how hard can it be to get it right?? I thought you fadings were supposed to be compliant!"
Annalae: "Um, Callista? What's he doing now?"
Callista: "Oh don't worry about him, he tries this with everyone he sends through the mirror. He watched the MTV Video Music Awards on Youtube awhile back, and it gave him ideas. Better not bother him..."

Very creepy and erotic! I echo Erick288's sentiment here, regarding the contrast between their feisty demeanor earlier and their docile state now. Well done!

Maybe they didn't get their morning coffee...
Thanks, Man! I'm glad the image tells that side of things. I've always liked the glowing-eye look, but there's a wrong time and place for it, it seems. Well, this is the wrong time and place, so I guess that makes it right for a creepy image.

Definitely has a bit of a haunted sort of feel to it, coming off the previous images of all three of them being so fiery. It's pretty amazing what a difference a small thing like the eyes can make, isn't it? This is really well done, love this image, and I like Callista's hand seeming to hold Annalae back as if to say "let's not get TOO close, maybe there's things we don't really want to know."

Yes, the glowing eye thing can turn a cute little baby into something demonically horrific. I'm glad you approve here. And I'm glad Callista's body language is noticeable. I imagined she'd say something like what you suggested, along with something like, "Now, hold on just a minute there, Annie. You know how you get. It'll be like 'Million-Dollar Baby' if you go in there right now..."
Thanks!

Well, I certainly can understand that sentiment. I will be posting the first page of the revision of the second chapter, Twisted Plot, within the next few weeks (it's already drawn and scanned). I'll be drawing and posting it and the next chapter of the story after this one (Web of Betrayal) simultaneously after this one's done. I'd think that a viewer could watch the revised Twisted Plot unfold and then move through the rest of it to the most recent stuff and have a pretty good exposure to the storyline. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it. And thanks!

Jervil: "I... I... just need a drag. Seriously. Will somebody please just GIMME A DRAG!"
Avora (out of the corner of her mouth): "Dude, this is a real drag."
Zirena (whispering): "Do you think he means 'dragon'? The Magistrate outlawed tobacco four years ago."
Deirdre (giggling): "Maybe he wants to dress in drag..."
Jervil: "Oh hell. How about a pull? Can someone please GIMME A PULL!?"
Avora (out of the corner of her mouth): Dude, I wish someone would pull me out of here."
Zirena (whispering): Do you think he means 'poll'? The Magistrate disbanded the opinion polls four years ago."
Deirdre (giggling): "Maybe he wants to pole-dance..."
Jervil (sighing: "Bah. Fadings..."

Pretty macabre...looks like Jervil's experiments extracted quite a bit of Anjerome's likeness from these women's life energy before they were sent through the mirror...

Thank you. Actually I had a bit of trouble with his face on this one--it's a little wider than normal, but I guess it's still more human-like than what we see after Callista thumps him a good one and reverses the process.
