"The Cat Whisperer's necessary ingredient was cold water," the Hellbinder explains aloud. "When added to the runing mixture, it gave the ink its potency to prevail against the natural inclination of her sorcery. You yourself are responsible for the discovery, Scholarling, and for that, we will reward you with the knowledge of the ingredient necessary for the siphoning rune you will wear."
The Scholar stares ahead, wide-eyed, spent, and unable to do more than watch and listen as a spectator as the Hellbinder begins to work on her. With size-belying agility, the brush is dipped into the inkwell which emits a sharp hint of acrid smoke that tickles her nose. Gingerly, the massive hand lowers the brush toward the flesh of Elina's pelvis, released from its extra ropes now that her mind's resistance is quelled.
"Ashes from burnt records is the answer. The sorcery is made stronger if the burning is done by your own hand as well, and thanks to your pyromortis spell cast in defense at our person, it was a simple matter to keep the inferno burning long enough to return to the workroom and incinerate a paper bearing a single name repeated over and over." Trapped in her body, and her body trapped in the being's grasp, Elina senses the creature pausing the brush a finger's width from her skin. "Can you guess the name, Scholarling?"

If you've read and looked at the rest of the Bookbinding chapter, you know the name and the paper the Hellbinder is referring to.
Elina was drawn with the awesome reference material provided by Emily at Feathered-pics
I relied on a number of references for this, the main one not being currently included in Emily's gallery.
Enjoy!
Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

"The game was rigged right from the start."
The Hellbinder really was playing with her from the beginning.

There, ya see? That's why I like redheads with freckles. You can play connect-the-dots and don't need any of them artistic skills.

Incredible work as ever, and the text is definitely a match for the artwork! Loving the thought you've put into the draining runes and Elina looks amazing (even while terrified, it must be said).

Oh, that's brilliant! Stupendously, bloody brilliant! The symbolic and ironic aspects of this are just insane! The notion that the necessity of an ingredient specific to the nature of the individual being runed, was discovered by one who is now to bear the rune herself is delectable. The idea that the secret ingredient for Elina is ashes of burnt records is sublime, for if any symbol could be imagined of her downfall, it is of the image and foundation of her scholarly nature reduced to nothing. The realization that the pyromortis defence spell on which she counted so completely, and which seemed to serve her so well, was actually the seed of her downfall, in that not only did it not do him the slightest harm, but he was able to take advantage of her usage of it to increase the effectiveness of the runing spell, must be devastating. It certainly does prove beyond a shadow of a doubt how well in hand, so to speak, the Hellbinder had the situation, right from the start.
Though I'm bowled over by the narrative here, I'm not slighting the image in any way. The inescapable doom inherent in the threatening proximity of his hands, bearing the instruments of what must be her permanent subjugation, is absolutely palpable, and the depth of not just her captivity, but her captivation is painfully clear in the glassy-eyed fixation in her gaze. Emily seems to be winding up her vital contribution to this monumental chapter with a series of magnificent photos,of which this is undoubtedly one, and Jeff is doing his typical brilliant best with them once again. We are not worthy!
Have a lovely holiday season, one and all.
