Somewhere below the servants’ pantry, in a chamber of higher ceiling and deeper darkness, two mismatched figures regard each other once again in an ongoing game of inquiry and endurance. Straight, tall, and muscular, the larger of the two stands bare and still, held in rigid chains that pull her limbs out uselessly away from her body. Her hands alternate from fists of tight resistance to open-palmed despair and back again, as if the callused digits clutch for a weapon as a matter of reassurance. A rolled cloth circles her head and neck, parting lips and teeth and stifling her words before she utters them.

Here is the first page of the scene involving Valerin and Jervil to be added to Tangled Threads, Part 2, which is just about done. A bit of the break in the story from the previous page to this one (actually only about eight pages between them if the current organization holds through publication).

Valerin was drawn using the reference material provided me by catchan and Viator-Defessus . My thanks to these wonderful collaborators!
