HP Prompt: As a young beast, everything is new. How does your beast react to the first time seeing another animal?

Beasts: Penny M65 , Halyn W610 , Asvald U85

Wordcount: 1948

Roleplay between: AidenHighope , Falbe

(Kusa)

Halyn came, her appetite satisfied. She cleaned the blood from her muzzle. She hunted small rodents, quick kills, easy meal.

As Asvald requested, the worg brought back herbs, roots and fruits to feed the doe once she would be awaken. It's been a few hours since the young one fell asleep. The sun was shining bright through the leaves, shading the ground with pretty dapple spots.

The ursus saw Halyn return. He smiled. The worg looked back at him and attempted to smile back. She deposited her finds on the ground, before the bear.

"I... found what you asked..." she shyly said.

"How is she doing ?"

Asvald looked at the doe tucked in his arms.

"She's better, but still weak. I hope she'll accept to eat... she would need the care of her mother." He explained concerned.

(Falbe)

Something tickled her nose. She tried to escape the tickling by moving her head a little, which made it only worse. Sneezing she slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was white fur…
But… didn’t her mom have the same color?!?
Her eyes widened and she snapped her head upwards to have a look at what as hopefully her mom.

Yet, no such luck - she starred in the eyes from another beast, having the same color has her mom but in the end, it wasn’t her.

All her joy disappeared within seconds and she looked back down again. The little doe fought back her tears when she tried to remember everything that happened before she fell asleep.

(Kusa)

Asvald lovingly rubbed the tip of his muzzle against the doe. his breath was powerful and warm.

"it's all right, nothing is gonna hurt you, how are you feeling?" He asked her.

The ursus soon realized he didn't know her name. Nor the one of the god. Maybe it was the right time to introduce himself. He decided to wait first. He wanted to check if the small child was doing ok despite the grim circumstances.

From her perspective, it seemed to Halyn that Asvald was a paternal figure in nature. He was genuinely concerned by the doe health, just like if it was a cub of his. She took a moment to admire his gentle and caring behaviour. She never saw nor experienced such things. Her ears dropped. She looked below her paws, the ground was there, tangible, real. Yet she was alone when she was awake, and missed the sweet dreams, even the nightmares that were keeping her company. She was also older, she didn't need as much care as the pink megaloceros. No doubt the bear would be extremely busy keeping the grazer alive.

(Falbe)

The little doe wasn’t able to hold her tears back anymore. “I miss my mom!”, she cried, hiding her face in the others’ pelt.

“Why did she leave me for so long? Did I do something wrong?”, she looked up at the face above her, watching his expressions change with wide, teary eyes.

(Kusa)

The snow bear was left without words. How could he possibly explained to her the terrible fate she met? He could not, not yet. She didn't need to lose hope. She was weak from the lack of care from her parents and needed every strength her frail body could hold to survive.

Asvald took a deep loud breath, and talk.

"You didn't do anything wrong. If someone is wrong, it's certainly not you." He rubbed his face against her. Hoping to bring her some comfort.

"We're gonna have a look around to see if we can't find any tracks of your mother... but we need to make a promise to each other. I promise I will stay and take care of you as long as needed, but you have to promise you'll be a brave doe and grow strong. Can you promise me that?" he kindly asked.

Halyn felt somewhat left aside. She watched silently the loving bear trying to comfort an abandoned child. Her heart was aching. It was about to explode, she didn't know why. What was she feeling? why her sight was getting blurry? She wondered why nobody came when she was alone like the young doe.

(Falbe)

Sniffing she returned the rubbing of the other one holding her.

“I… I don’t know how, but… but I will try”, she murmured into his fluffy face.

Her ears twitched. Something behind her was making weird noises. Turning her face she saw the first beast she met out here. She looked just as sad as she was, but… why?

Struggling she tried to get out of the arms of the one holding her right now. It took some moments as the arms were reluctant to let her go, but she did it after some seconds.

Landing on unsure hooves she needed a few moments to gather herself and not to land on her butt for the who knows how many times already. Once she was sure she wouldn’t fall she took a few steps forward. It was a struggle at first but she got the feeling back in her legs in no time, and soon she reached the other sad beast.

The little doe looked up, looking for any sign of danger but when she saw none, she took the last step and rubbed her face in the fur of the two colored beast with the glowy stuff in her pelt.

(Kusa)

Halyn didn't notice the small doe approaching her and was taken aback when she felt the struggling little creature rubbing against her. The chimera worg stopped breathing for a second. What was happening? Touch never felt comforting before.

Slowly, she let down her eyes to the pink doe and starred.

Asvald looked puzzled. All he could do, was to join the other beasts and embrace them in his large strong paws.

"Everything is gonna be alright, papa Asvald is here" He held them tight.

He continued to keep them close in his protective arms until they began to calm down.

"what are your names young ones?" He finally asked the question burning his lips.

(Falbe)

Feeling the wrong arms of the light colored beast wrap around them, the little doe looked up at him again.

Name.. she… never got one. Looking sad again she told him as much. But there was something else slowly coming into her mind and not waiting for any reactions on her being basically nameless she threw her question at the other two.
“What are you? You’re not looking like me! And you have more fur! And more teeth! and shorter ears! Am I going to grow up and look like you later? Will I have fluffy fur as well?”, getting more and more excited she looks expectant at the two older ones, waiting for answer.

(Kusa)

The little doe was the first to talk. Asvald calmly explained that the land was inhabited by all sort of beasts. Small and tall, walking, swimming or flying. Everywhere, life was thriving.

"There's many thing I could teach you. But I'll start with your questions. I am an ursus, I grow strong and keep fat easily. Ursus prefers to feed on fishes and fruits. The young fawn and black beast here is a worg. You little one, are called a megaloceros. You don't grow sharp teeth, but males of your kind grow strong antlers that can be just as sharp." He tried to be clear and understandable.

"As for your name, we will have to find one that fits your colorful personality." He said with a smile.

Halyn look up to him... and shyly introduce herself.

"I...I'm Halyn..."

(Falbe)

Listening eagerly the pink doe tried to soak up every piece of information like a sponge.
Momentarily forgetting her mom, or, well, the lack of mom around her she tries to think of other questions.

“CAN I GET ANTLERS AS WELL???”, she shouted at the Ursus, looking at him expectantly.

If she would have been a Worg she probably would have wagged with her tail so excited she was.

Still waiting for an answer she heard a small voice from behind, telling them her name - Halyn. Turning around the young doe looked at the worg with bright eyes. “I like your name!”, she smiled.

“And what’s my name now?”, the pink doe asked, always looking from the Ursus to the Worg and back to the Ursus, moving her head so fast it almost started to blur in front of the other eyes.

(Kusa)

Asvald tried to calm the little one excitement.

"now now, one thing at a time"

He waited for her to focus on his words rather than the many question she had. He was quite relieved to see her being so vivid. It was a good sign.

"first, I believe you're a doe, and thus you will not grow antlers. However don't be pained. As it will make your more agile and fast. You will also be able to hide in a forest with thick vines and many branches without worrying about your head getting trapped." He stopped.

She needed a name, but what would make the perfect one? He looked more at the adorable young doe. Her bubbly eyes, shiny coat and charming voice were inspiring him. He wanted something that sounded like her, sparkling yet cute. Penny maybe? It sounded right to his mind.

"For now on, if you accept, you shall be named Penny. What do you think?"

Halyn rose her ears. Penny. It sounded about right for her.

(Falbe)

The pink doe pouted. “I want to be able to beat bad beasts though”, she said. “I don’t see how that should work without horns!”

She took some steps back before sprinting towards the ursus, butting her head into his soft stomach. “See, that doesn’t do anything”, she complains.

Hearing her name for the first time she bounced up and down. “Penny”, she grinned at the Ursus. Turning around with a small jump she ran towards Halyn, rearing up so she’s only on her hind legs and rests her front legs on the worgs torso. “PENNY!”, she exclaimed, looking absolutely delighted.

(Kusa)

Halyn looked spooked, she wasn't expecting so much energy coming from a so little body. Asvald couldn't be happier. The joy was lightening his face.

"I'm happy you like your name. We still have plenty to discuss. I need to teach you about the dangers of the land. See, not all beasts, as you figured already, will be nice to you. And there's some specie you must never trust..."

And so, Asvald began to explain what was the circle of life, that beasts had to feed and some would be predators for others. Sabers were the expert ambush hunters, the most dangerous of all for a megaloceros. Worgs tended to prefer smaller preys and were a major threat when in packs. As they live in group, they also more keen to form bonds with other species. Equus were allies, they had strong hooves and wide guts to absorb large amount of air into their lungs. They were deadly kickers. He talked also about ursus, how they were physically strong, but lazier. Hunting was a waste of energy, most of them would prefer to catch fishes.

Asvald vocal essay bored Halyn to no end. She eventually fell into a deep slumber while he was continuing to educate the young Penny who still had so many things to learn.

(Falbe)

Leaning more and more against the now slumbering worg she felt her eyes grow heavier by the minute. She did try to stay awake and focused as Asvald tried to explain her things.

In the end - she lost the fight against sleep - ending up cuddled against a weird to colored glowy worg.
