“Brasidas NO, all I want to do is cuddle, NOT FIGHT”, Alexios shouted frustrated. “What do you mean, cuddle”, the other stallion asked irritated, stomping with his hoof on the grass beneath him.
Alexios sighs. “Seriously, it’s not always about fighting, you know. I just want to be able to do stuff like cuddling or playing with you once in a while as well. But every effin time, you think I want to attack you, or worse, you shove me away!”
Huffing again Brasidas looks away. His eyes follow the wide sea of grass in front of them, hints of mountains and forests on the horizon. Suddenly, he saw something moving towards them…
(Kusa)
Nunc was walking through the vast green fields. Perfectly visible, the night saber wasn't in search of preys, simply wandering through the valley, looking for something interesting to do of her day. Indeed she didn't like to waste a single second. Each new sunrise was the sign of a new adventure.
The wind blew directly to her nostrils, brushing her long stary mane and coat. The scent of two stallions nearby, no herd, only the two of them, two males.
"Now that's something unusual" she said with a four-fanged grin.
She walked faster towards the scent and saw the two feisty Equus in the middle of what seemed to be an argument.
"Now now, life is too short to fuss and fight, isn't it? what's up with you two? exposed to predators like you are. You guys sure don't lack confidence heh?"
(Falbe)
Brasidas jumps into action, shoving Alexios behind him and staring at the saber. “Don’t even think about preying on us. One wrong move and you had your fangs” he huffed.
Again, Alexios sighed. “You know, I can kick their butt as good as you can. No need to shove me away to protect me you dork”
Yet, the Darkwood Equus doesn’t listen to him and makes himself even bigger. Annoyed as hell by this behaviour Alexios makes a decision… bumping into Brasidas shoulder he steps past him, towards the saber.
“Ok, you haven’t attacked us yet, maybe you can help me. Up for it?” he asks.
(Kusa)
The dark lady sure looked amused at those two awkward grazers. Preys were usually less talkative and more discreet. She was looking at them with a regal gaze.
One of the stallion bumped into the other and addressed Nunc. She twitched her ear in surprised and curiosity.
"I'm not gonna attack you, I'm sure you know what sabers are best at. Ambush. I'm not preying on you, plus you would put too much of a fight, a waste of energy for a meal I wouldn't get if you ask me." She paused with the same noble stance and tone, then pursued.
"What kind of help do you need dear?"
(Falbe)
“Well, as you might have seen, this donkey o-”, Alexios tried to explain but was suddenly interrupted by a certain someone shouting his complains: “I’M NOT A DONKEY!”
“SHUDDUP” Alexios shouted back and returned his focus on the saber in front of him.
“As you might have seen, this donkey of a horse refuses to do nice things with me, always wants to fight, and I really don’t know what to do anymore. He just… can’t be gentle or does ever do something lover would do.”
Looking sadder with each word the earthen colored equus turns his head a little bit, just to see Brasidas turning away with a scowl.
(Kusa)
" huuum" The saber took a few seconds to think.
"Well, you're both stallions, isn't it in your nature to like... compete with each other ?" She shook her head.
"Well, Donkey-hooves" she said looking straight at Brasidas. "Think about a foal and its mother, think about how two mares would comfort and snuggle against each other when times are tough. That's what it is to be gentle, and sometimes that's all it's needed."
Nunc huffed, not sure it would enter so easily into the darkwood equus thick skull.
(Falbe)
“It is in our nature, yes, but that doesn’t mean we have to compete all the time without a break, does it now?” Alexios smiled sadly at her.
When the saber turned her attention to Brasidas the Darkwood Equus straightened up.
“I’m NOT a mare. Nor do I see any reasons in things like cuddling. It’s for the weak, the ones having to submit, to beg to get protection of someone stronger. Showing weakness like this is beneath our dignity as fighters.” Brasidas replies, his scowl deepening.
“There we go” Alexios mumbles and rolls his eyes. “Showing someone how much you love them by being gentle for once has nothing to do with weakness, but why am I even still trying to tell you this. You never listened up until now so why should you change your opinion now.”
He turned back to the saber and sighed. “See what I need help with now?”
(Kusa)
Nunc calmly listened to what they both had to say, targeting the issue at its core.
"Alright... I have to agree with mister horse here, affection doesn't have anything to do with strength or weaknesses. What happens in your personal life shouldn't affect the rest of your herd or... whatever weird group of equus you guys live in...."
Nunc had to try something, the poor Earth toned horse seemed desperate. Such a vivid spirit, yet he couldn't live the life he was longing for because his companion was attached to some sort of code of conduct for warriors.
"Seems to me your pal is scared. That's a shame really... what if the others say you guys are weak? now tell me... are you? if I was saying you were nothing but whimpering preys... wouldn't you prove me wrong?"
She looked at Brasidas again, provoking him.
"Maybe you simply don’t have what it takes to break the rules, to be above them while still being strong."
(Falbe)
Alexios snorts, “To be honest, we’re lovers (who would’ve guessed), not really having a herd, instead just wandering around…”
Before he was even anywhere near finishing his sentence he heard angry stomping behind him. Surprised he turned around.
Brasidas marched towards the saber. “How dare you” he spat, coming closer and closer until he was snout to snout with the feline.
“Uhm, Bras-” the earth Equus tried to intervene but Brasidas simply ignored him and continued.
“I’m NOT scared and if I hear another word from you about us being weak, scared or anything alike I’m going to kick your butt so hard you fly to Umbru’s Star Stones” he threatened the saber.
(Kusa)
The cosmos saber chuckled.
"wait, so you two live on your own? Then why would it matter? there's nobody to judg..."
She saw the fierce darkwood horse coming closer in a clear threatening stance. She remained still, calmed and let escaped a slight sigh.
"You're not getting it, aren't you ?" She looked at the now very close equus.
"You would only prove my point, send me to fly all that you want, I couldn't care less. You would prove you can beat a demi-god in strength, great. But it wouldn't show you're strong enough to make a small concession to keep the ones you love close."
She was trying to give the angry horse little time to interrupt, she was getting straight to the point.
"Listen... closely... life is short. All talk, no act. The future is now, you don't realize, but you're building your future at this instant... and what I see... is you're risking to lose a handsome stallion because of your pride. Don't let this go to waste, make the most of your relationship. Winners don't follow rules, that's for the losers, winners MAKE the rules, you can change what strong and weak means you can be gentle strongly, you two can build something more powerful."
(Falbe)
Alexios breaks out in laughter. “You’re trying to threaten a demi-god, this is gold…” he wheezes.
While he continues his amused ramble Brasidas keeps staring at the saber. Maybe she wasn’t so wrong after all. Not that he would ever say it out loud. Looking back at his lover, still giggling and laughing, he thinks for another second of what to do now.
But who is he kidding, he already know what he’s going to do. His gaze meets one more time the saber ones’ before turning around and walking towards Alexios.
The earth Equus, finally noticing the change in the air, stops laughing and watches Brasidas attentively. Finally standing in front of Alexios the Darkwood horse slightly turns his head towards the saber before looking back at a confused Alexios.
He takes a deep breath and…
gently nuzzles his lover for the first time.
(Kusa)
The stubborn male, at last, showed signs of change. By the way he was acting, Nunc could say that wasn't easy for him. Yet she was impressed. He did prove her wrong, he would do what it takes to be truly strong, and this that meant being gentle with his lover, he would give it a go.
Nunc smiled, she lowered her head as a discreet sign of deep respect.
Feeling that her job was done, she took a step backward, meaning she was remaining no threat to them and said with a much kind and benevolent voice.
"You two better live old and strong enough so I have the chance to say I met the two fiery warrior stallions. The only equus no predators would ever dare call a prey." she smirked, and nodded goodbye, beginning to walk her own path again.
Her job was done, now she wanted to leave them some space and privacy. It's difficult to be gentle for the first time with an audience after all. Another day worth living for Nunc, another adventure to tell.
(Falbe)
The only movement telling they heard her was the flicker of ears towards her direction.
Alexios smiled happily, finally getting what he wanted for so long: a gentle moment with his beloved, and Brasidas? Well, maybe he likes it too. But again, not that he would ever say it out loud.
