Axel looked over the walls of the pink team’s giant snow fort to look for his guest. He was late. Again. He was likely trying to be fashionably late, but all that ended up happening was that Axel would get paranoid that he had been ditched and that he didn’t care about him and he’d just end up feeling terrible until he showed up. So the poor man curled up near the wall and tried not to let his fears get to him.

He felt a tap on his shoulder and whipped around to see Leonid looking concerned. “Axel? Are you alright? You look even more worried than usual.”
“Oh- oh. Of course, I’m fine. It’s just..”
“He’s still not here? Where even is he? Surely he couldn’t be-“ Leonid was cut off by the shouts of the opposing team, and a very familiar yelp. “Ack-! I’m not even near the fort yet!!” June yelled as he fell into the thick layer of snow coating the ground.

There was just a snicker from Nova, who was readying another snowball. “Well maybe you shouldn’t have been late then?”
Axel ran out to go help him, his feet sinking into the snow and making his sprint significantly slower than it would’ve usually been. “It’s not his fault! Leave him alone, he’s already down. Stop trying to hurt everyone!” He helped June up out of the snow and quickly looked over him to make sure he wasn’t hurt.

“You’re no fun! If half of your team is going to be late, then we can at least hit them before they’re in your fort.” Calamari huffed, although she seemed much less competitive than her teammate. “I’m still not sure if your fort is even within the rules. It was built by a 25-foot-tall sea goddess.”
“I’m just another cham, like you. I’m a bit bigger is all.” Lee sheepishly spoke up. Her quiet voice was almost funny in contrast to her size.
“Yeah, a giant one with really strong magical powers that would excel in this area because snow is made of water.”

“I can build a snow fort, sure, but you can have hot chocolate and whatever clothes you want.” Lee buried her face in her scarf, which was striped and made to look like a sandworm and got back to work on something that involved her being miles away. It was only a very short walk to her, but the point still stands. Axel waved the blue team away and walked June back to their fort. “I’m so sorry about that. I should’ve known they’d pelt you with snowballs as soon as you arrived, they did it to poor Andromeda and Charlie as well.”
“No, you’re fine. I think I knew it would happen too, but I don’t have any other way of getting to the fort. How did you build this thing anyway?”

Axel smiled and looked up at the fort before entering. The fort towered over the two fairly short chams, clearly having been made by someone who was either incredibly tall themselves, could fly, or had magic on their side to assist them. Or several at once, who knows. The fort’s front had been styled to look like a fancy old theatre, although the back and sides were fairly plain. Nobody really had to look at those, anyway. They had also somehow managed to give the fort multiple stories, which June knew was possible, but hadn’t expected them to actually go and do it. It honestly made him wonder just how early they had gotten up, because this couldn’t have been thrown together in an hour even with the use of magic.

“Ashie started building up a fort last night, and Lee saw. So Charlie and I got up as early as we could to build an even bigger one!”
“That doesn’t quite explain why it’s about 30 feet tall.” June was clearly exaggerating, but it was huge, and he stopped to gawk at the fort before running to catch up a bit. Axel just giggled. “Lee can control water, and she’s 25 feet tall. Spook and I may have detailed it, but we wouldn’t be able to manage anything like this without her help.”
“Fair enough. What is Lee doing now, anyway? Assuming the really tall fish is Lee.” He gestured to the giant fish lady, who was in fact Lee. She was hunched over a while away with Andromeda and Charlie, giggling and seemingly putting something together.
“She won’t tell us, she insists it’s a surprise. She evidently needed two little helpers though, so it’s probably going to be big.”

June settled down from the adrenaline of being knocked over and let Axel properly check for any injuries. After determining that June had barely a hair out of place, Axel sat back for second.. before being hit right in the eye with a snowball that seemed more akin to a softer block of ice than a tougher ball of snow. He fell backwards and hit the floor hard with a little whimper. Junebug furiously turned his head around so fast it cracked, to see a little axolotl boy looking disgruntled. “Damnit.” He muttered. “That was supposed to hit the beetle man.” June was about to go off at the kid before he heard Axel softly begin speaking to the little gremlin. “Tad, please. He’s my friend, you can trust him. Tell you what, why don’t you go hang out with Blacklight and throw these things at the other team instead?” Axel smiled at Tad, who seemed very fond of that idea. He ran off before anyone could get another word in edgeways.

Axel passed the unusually tough snowball to June, who pottered over to the window to throw it at the watermelon-looking kid whose snowball had hit him in the jaw. He was not exactly known for being merciful. Axel caught his wrist just as he was getting ready to throw. “Don’t throw that at a kid!”
“What about Tad? He’s allowed to throw them at people.”
“If I didn’t let him do that then he’d keep throwing ice blocks at you. Besides, Misha’s fragile and also just so happens to be 7 years old.”
“Ah. What are they doing anyway? I can’t see anything from this giant fort. Nice work by the way.”

Over at the blue team’s fort, Misha was working with Keroshi to roll up snowballs and put them in a neat little pile for the others to grab from. Calamari, Tsumuki and Nova were doing just that, although some had a better aim than others. Nova had an aim and the throwing power almost snipe people with a snowball. She whipped her arm forward and launched a snowball directly into Spook’s chest before cheering a little. He was not as pleased about it, but she didn’t seem to care about that much. She took a break to look over at the pink team’s fort. “Damn, having Lee would be an advantage in sports. Must be pretty neat being that big. Nobody could bully you, you could just step on them.”

“You could barely hold hands with anyone if you were that big. And just imagine never getting a hug from someone and being warm all over because they’re really tall to you!” Misha piped up from her spot on the floor. “I don’t think she likes being that big. I don’t think I’d like it either.. but now I do kind of wish I could be really, REALLY big, bigger than her, so I could go give her a dad hug. But from me instead of her dad. I think she’d like that.”
Keroshi smiled at how sweet the little watermelon girl was. “Awww, that’s so sweet of you! I’m sure she’d love it.”

“But right now, we need to prove to her that she’s not on top of the world by winning this fight.” Nova grinned from ear to ear. “The quicker we can win, the quicker we can go talk to her!”
“That’s right!” Kero chirped. “And we can impress all of them with how many snowballs we made. We can let them know that without us they wouldn’t have had anything to throw, so we can prove just how useful we are!” She smiled at Misha, who nodded eagerly and continued to make little snowballs that were almost too big for her hands, but perfect for the others.

Andromeda proudly stood back from her creation. She had gotten a bit bored of making a million snowballs and had run off rolling two of them to make a snowcham of none other than Anton. Although it was a tad difficult to tell wether it was Leonid or Anton without looking at the eyes due to the similar fluffy hair, it was still incredibly well made, especially for something done so quickly. “Guys, look what I made!” She beamed. Charlie turned around from climbing up onto Lee’s shoulder to look at it. “Woah, that’s really cool! Who is it?” They sat down and clung to a bit of Lee’s hair to stop them from falling off. Andromeda just looked at her snowcham again before Charlie realised who it was. “Oh!! It’s Anton!” They beamed right back.

Lee finally sat up from her work. “That’s super cool, Andromeda! Now, are you about ready to show blue team what we’ve got?” She smiled widely, to which Andromeda returned the gesture and ran up to her. “Of course! They’ll rue the day they messed with Charlie and I.” Lee picked up Andromeda and made sure her and Charlie were comfortable and secure on her shoulders before standing up to tower over everyone else at the competition. “Listen up!” Her voice boomed across the clearing, finally fitting the girl it belonged to. Sure enough, everyone quickly turned their heads in fear and curiosity. “I’m not good with dramatic speeches, but it’s come to my attention that our opposition has been ambushing any member of our team who dared show up late. I don’t think it’s quite fair to attack someone who has no way of defending themselves, so I think I’ll set the record straight by seeing how you all like it.”

Lee raised her arms ever so slightly and the stack of snowballs she had been working on began to float. It was quite clear who had made each snowball by the size difference. “I can control water, and ice just happens to be frozen water. Now, I have but one suggestion for you all..” she paused to let everyone process everything. While the pink team eagerly awaited her next words (except for Axel, who was worried that someone would get hurt), the blue team were petrified. They had a rough idea of what was next, but they waited, frozen in fear, for her to finish her line.

“..RUN.”
