Description some days her arms are like ivy
wrapping around his neck the way
the greenery wraps around a cemetery's
wrought iron gate, curves and coils
in haphazard clumps and patches

and some days,
his eyes are like the sunlight,
his gaze so linear she's certain
it looks right past her and onto
the moon and its pull on the ocean
and all the havoc it wreaks on her heart:

the way the tide gallops in, rippling the blue
and slipping it out of the green
only to thunder along the coast
seizing her heart
with its small slippery hand

the way the wave slaps over her head
onto the sand like a beached whale,
leaving her choking and breathless
salt in her mouth
as her lips taste of tears

or the way his eyes are really more
like the beam from a lighthouse
calling the warning to her storm,
but all she sees is a yellow-gray blur
and his mouth kissing her tears
