Description His eyes were gorgeous. They rivaled the purest emerald and shone as bright as the sun above us. He glared at me, possibly out of curiosity and not anger, which surprised me. As the stare-down continued, I noticed his immense beauty. Not only were his eyes stunning, but the rest of him was as well. His jet black coat was broken up by rays of sun flooding through the tree-top canopy, making him seem less threatening. My eyes slowly observed him top to bottom, astonished at his natural beauty and the fact that he was docile.

There was something wrong though; not with him but with me. Even though he seemed harmless, he was still a brutal killing machine, one of a species that had become my people's enemy. I was face-to-face with the very thing my mother warned me to stay away from, yet I did nothing. I knew I should've been reacting differently – running, screaming, crying- but I couldn't. I couldn't move, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't take my eyes off him. My body acted on its own, and I couldn't do a thing about it. The only thing I could do was silently observe the creature's beauty, as I awaited his reaction to me.

To my surprise, the Wolf was just as still as I was, and appeared almost statue like. I knew something had to happen, or he would grow tired of waiting and possibly attack. I checked my surroundings for anything that could prove useful, but nothing sparked my interest. Then it hit me. I still had my pail of fish and berries with me, so maybe I could show him peace by giving him a bite to eat.

I acted on my plan, sheepishly lifting my hand to the mouth of the bucket. I watched his eyes follow the movements of my hand, obviously interested by what I was doing. I slipped my hand into the pail, and slowly pulled out a fish, praying that he would react how I hoped. His face instantly lit up at the sight of the tasty morsel, and he took a small step forward making me slightly wary.

"Here ya go…" I said calmly, hoping to show him that I was no threat. "This can be all yours; just don't attack me, okay?" The fish dangled in the air as the Wolf cautiously approached. His facial features didn't show any reason to be concerned, but still; animals are unpredictable, so I couldn't let my guard down. I was sweating from every pore, and my hands trembled as I held the fish. I could feel my bravery slowly depleting, as the reality of the situation set in. I realized that he might not take the fish without harming me; he could become offensive. I couldn't retreat now though, I'd committed myself to this, and there was no way I was backing out.

He became increasingly more difficult to read as he drew near, so I wasn't sure what to expect or prepare for. I braced myself as he tilted his head upwards, with perked ears thinking he might do something unexpected. Clearly distracted, the Wolf turned to his left inspecting the bushes and trees around us. I had no idea why, seeing as how I would be considered a threat to any animal, but it seemed as though there were more important things to deal with somewhere else. Still staring out at what seemed to be nothing more than some greenery; he sat down on his hind quarters and tilted head to the side appearing to be confused. Almost instantaneously, his ears flew up into straight standing triangles, telling me he heard something.

It all happened too fast for my brain to register. Snarls, fur, greenery flying past me, and screams buzzing through my head. Sharp pains shot into my temple as I hit the ground, throwing everything into sharper focus. All of my sense suddenly became brightened, the noises around me ringing and screaming into my mind. The bright sunlight streaming through the treetops burned my retinas, creating a diluted film over my vision and dulling the world around me. Slowly, my eyes adjusted and I was able to sort out some of the images floating around in front of me. As timed ached on and my confusion began drifting away, I noticed that whatever had pushed me to the ground was no longer present, and had for some reason left me there. Eventually, I forced myself up into a sitting position so I could know for certain what was going on. I felt my jaw drop, and my heart jump as I came eye to eye with a pack of Wolves.
