NES - A staple in gaming controllers and one of Nintendo's best controllers.
SNES - Another staple, if not the staple in gaming controllers and Nintendo's best controller.
N64 - Sadly , they made one of the most awkwardly designed controllers ever.
GC - One of Nintendo's best controllers.
Wii - Could have been a motion control add-on for the GameCube.
Wii U - The gamepad looks good and the pro controller looks great.

I liked the rounded corners and shoulder buttons on the SNES, it was a real step up from the original NES, then Nintendo started experimenting.
The Wii-U is the first one in a while that makes any sense (I suppose the GameCube was okay, just really not comfortable in my over-sized hands) from an old-school perspective. I haven't bought one yet though as there are only two Nintendo exclusives that I want that weren't also released on the 3DS.
I like the touch screen on the 3DS, really nice for some games, and more usable than the front and back touch on the Vita.
Also, there are less devs who think grabbing both front and back screens at an odd angle, twisting the unit at an uncomfortable angle, and pointing the camera towards a light source is a good idea for a mini-game.

I guess Nintendo wanted to try out the new system that includes a controller with a touchscreen. But apparently, the sales on Wii U didn't do so well. That's why the Nintendo Switch is created. Also, I withdraw my last comment about the Wii U being the last Nintendo console. The Switch is the best.
