Well, i think everyone's already said what I wanted to say. But fuck it, i rather not leave without saying anything.

Wu-Wei said what i was going to say about the crossword puzzle. Though my first instinct didn't relate the puzzle to relationships being complicated. My first instinct related the crossword puzzle, to something that couples might do together, and later you might look at the crossword puzzle and think of your ex-lover and fill in the gaps trying to solve your own puzzle. It also reminded me of when i used to go straight to the horoscopes in the newspaper and my star sign out, and if it was good luck, i'd keep it. Yeah you remember me doing that in the mornings at college.
And yeah, i like the subtleness of the telephone number. in the top corner. scruntched up.
And yeah, i like the note on the corner, almost like its written on a letter.
And yeah, i like the idea of the coffee stain, the idea that it's could be something from a time spent together and its stained, like the relationship feels. Or ir could be from after the relationship, from dealing with loss. Or it couldn't even be from their relationship, it could be from someone elses, or even someone whose alone. I think i prefer the idea that its someone who we dont even know, someone whose left their mark behind.

And yeah, this has all been said before.
It's lovely.

there's no name next to the telephone number. i think that's the most important part. i won't tell you what i think it means though.

but it makes me sad.

isn't interpretation a silly thing?

I love that the truth is in stark type.. and the facade is handwritten.. and yeah, the coffee ring owns.

I love this, the whole idea and how it was put together brings a beautiful imagery in to place. I totally agree with ~pisschrist and his analyzation. It tells a story about something very sad, but something very raw and true. great idea of doing this.

The origanl meeting, exchange of phone numbers, it is crumpled.
The crosswords symbolizing a reach to stop thinking about what happened last night, to stop thinking about the reasons.
The coffee stains of the morning after, staining everything brown.

This is my analyzation.
And I love this.

i'll wait for the devpack to get the whole faugravity/pantopicon/wu-wei thing... i feel like some part are missing..

anyway, about this piece itself...
i like how you put those elements together, marks of past events (written phone number, morning crosswords, coffee)
and how you lietteraly cover them with a surrounding story...

visually, it reminds me of wendy's [link]

I love this, the crossword is the perfect background for the scene you have created here. All those multiple instances of the "morning after" -- and the ritual of the "message". This is so wonderfully constructed in this piece. The ways in which you show language to be essentially a simultaneously deceptive and revealing structure here are so complex - the overlapped messages show a kind of breakdown in the transmission of the words and their reception -- but a self-reflexive and aware breakdown. Tremendous.

Well i think anything i could say would merely pale in comparison to wu-wei's comment and the piece itself so i'll just leave it at saying "stunning as usual my dear."

Absolutely lovely. The newspaper brings such a 'mass-consumption' aspect to our communications, and the thought of hundreds of people working away at the same crossword puzzle (a delightful language game that plays so well on our ambiguities) is just divine. Is there anything more absurd, or futile?

An additional layer of textuality comes from the message in the puzzle, and what a symbol that is -- every relationship is a puzzle. Sometimes we want to solve or be solved. Other times, as here, we want to further confound the riddle, or just play along without trying too hard.

The physical attributes are likewise exquisite -- the coffee ring of a hurried exit, the scrawled number on crumpled paper, and tape . . . all wonderfully human traits.

This is rich with subtleties, and I love this project.
