Excellent figure/portrait - and wonderful flowing charcoal swoop in the background for the woman to pop out of...

Outstanding. I just wish you posted a larger size!

I love the little highlights one the hair, the ear, the eyes and the one on the chin. The darkness of the surrounding shading really makes them stand out. Very nice chiaro scuro.

The expression can contribute greatly to the appeal of a portrait, as it does in this case. I love how the body is slightly muted, so that our attention isn’t drawn away from the face.

(By the way, since this is from life, I believe it should be in the "Portraits and Figures” gallery.)

That was very nice of you, thankyou. I just wanted to see the face in more detail.

Oh and exactly what pencils and paper do you use?

Conte B pencil, (black with the gold ring on top) on smooth newsprint (Seth Cole) Its important to sharpen the pencil to a long taper so you can use the side of it to make broad strokes.

That's interesting. I've used both conte pencils and newsprint, but never together.

Thanks for the kind words! (moved to "Portraits and Figures”, nice catch.) I'll see if I can turn up a larger size for you.
