Description
Day 22
May and I arrived at Mount Chimney well before sunrise. When we emerged from the Fiery Pass there were no more Aqua guards in front of the cable car station but I noticed scorch marks on the facade. I pulled out Mickey in case someone awaited our entrance, but the station was empty when we opened the doors. There were definite signs of a battle, which would also explain why the stewardesses had disappeared. Thankfully the machinery and cable cars were unharmed. We boarded and Mickey activated the car from the console and I returned him as we ascended.
It was probably the longest 15 minutes of our entire ordeal; anticipation and anxiety building as we climbed. What if we were half way up when they blew the volcano? We probably wouldn't have survived. Worst case scenarios were winning Preakness Stakes in my mind the whole way up.
When we arrived it was a melee. Team Magma was already there and was battling Team Aqua's grunts. We moved past the battles, dodging the occasional attack as we worked our way up to the crater at the summit. Once there I caught sight of Archie on a platform that stretched out over the glowing magma pit. He was standing near a large silver machine and placing something beneath a glass dome top. Figuring it to be the meteorite and my time running out, I hurled Moof's pokeball at the villain and shouted for him to keep Archie away from that control panel.
My order caught the attention of Maxie, who was fending off three grunts on his own. He told us to hurry ahead while he kept the grunts occupied. Enemy of my enemy is my ally, so we didn't hesitate about leaving him behind us. As we turned around a large boulder I caught sight of Moof perched on the control panel, his proboscis elongated and poised before Archie's throat. Archie looked mildly amused. I threatened that Moof would suck him dry if he moved towards that machine. He backed off, only to summon his mightyena. I was about to give a command when I got tackled into the boulder by a poochyena.
I was dazed for a moment but May came to my aid, her grovyle slashing at poochyena and warding him off of me. I felt the back of my head; no blood. And Moof was chocking Archie's mightyena, standing heroically upon the machine as he blew silver scales through the air. May told me to hurry and she'd deal with the grunt.
I obliged, rushing towards the base of the platform. And then Shelly popped up, a carnival game target with terrible timing. I tried to barge through her but she tripped me and called out a grimer to sit on top of me. She told me I wasn't going to stop them, that the power of the volcano was too versatile to not claim it. I looked over to Archie as Moof dodged an attack from his blue rocket-shaped sharpedo. I recalled the pokedex information about carvanah evolving into sharpedo and it being a dark type, so ordered Moof to use silver wind again.
The grimer tried to move over my head to shut me up as Shelly stood over me with a sadistic grin, but Lucius curbed her pleasure when he burst from his ball and ripped the grimer off of me, tossing the sludgy mass over the edge. I thanked him and returned him when Shelly screamed and summoned her own mightyena. In interest of haste I switched to Grawl. He satisfactorily slugged his opponent into Shelly, incapacitating both of them. I recalled him and turned to assess Moof's situation.
I was just in time to see Moof use air cutter on a golbat, damaging its' wings. Unfortunately it wasn't sufficient to ground golbat and Moof took an air cutter attack in retaliation. I watched in horrified rage as he was viciously lacerated and plummeted towards the magma. On instinct I called out Capaldi to rescue Moof and snarled at Archie.
He had the decency to call off golbat so Capaldi could retrieve Moof; and the nerve to congratulate me on being such a nuisance. He wanted to know if I was curious as to what he would do with the meteorite. In honesty yes, I was; but in that moment I had a ragged, near-death beautifly in my arms and vengeful justice in my mind. I sternly commanded Capaldi to end his golbat with a steel wing. The hit was so strong that Archie had to return his golbat to its' pokeball to keep it from sharing Moof's near-miss. And then I ordered Capaldi to do the same to the machine, destroying the glass dome and the controls.
Archie was fuming and reached back to his belt of pokeballs, threatening to end this once and for all with mega evolution. Now, thinking back, I probably should have been frightened by this, but I wasn't then. I didn't care then. And it didn't happen anyways, because he ended up grabbing his phone instead. He spoke of a 'Matt' and 'Mt. Pyre' and mentioned some orbs or something. The conversation seemed to completely change his mood, as he abruptly cut our war short and declared me victor. He went on about not needing the meteorite anymore to control ancient pokemon and tossed it to me, with instructions to turn it into a mega stone or keystone (or jewelry for all the sense I could make of it). I was perplexed; he just... left.
Maxie from Team Magma watched him leave and questioned me heavily, but the orb mention was the only significant thing to him I guess. Moments like that keep making me feel like I'm getting involved in something massively outside my comfort zone.
