Description
Drawings featuring him
Text updated 5-5-2019
Names: Morten Sætansen.
Species: siderian (a northern, horse-sized tiger-oriental cat-lynx like feline)
Gender: male
Birth place: Norway – also known by siderians as the Fjordlands. Born on the Sætansen lands, near the metacluster Mistfjord (close to the human city Trondheim).
Birth year/date (relative to Stian’s birth year): -41.
Death year, relative to Stian’s birth year: +48 (up to +55) – so he was between 89 and 96. My impression was that he was more like 89 when he died. That is 65 in human years).
Family
Mother: Alva Hvitland
Father: Matthias Sætansen
Brother: Axel Khean Sætansen
Mate: Mara Grandal
First born son: Goran Gunnar Sætansen
Second born daughter: Stígana Gudrun Sætansen (Tiga) – you can see her as cub on Goran's sketchdump
Last born son: Stygian Stígandr Sætansen (Stian)
APPEARANCE
Appearance and reputation: powerful and determined. Strong and impressive with his tall appearance, big paws and a permanent poker-face. He is known as the stone-cold son of the notorious and crazy genius Matthias. Often looked at with sceptics, given the Sætansen history. However, since he behaved very decent and polite, he could make his way without trouble.
Shoulder height: 1,71m
Physical description
Quite long lined and bony under his long fur. Large shoulder blades and strong front limbs. He has exceptionally big paws like his mother and son. His hind legs are a little lanky compared to his powerful front legs. Straight, lynx-like back. Chest is pretty narrow and shallow. Tail is relatively long and carried upward. Pelvis bones stick out. Neck is pretty long and held high.
Rather narrow skull, triangular muzzle and high cheekbones. Straight profile with a strong downwards slope. Some say, it looks like as if he bumped into a wall. Flat skull and quite angular occipital. Normal sized ears that are pointing straight up with a slight inwards curve. High placed rather narrow eyes with a dark pigmented edge. Light golden in colour. Eyebrows are low and give him a penetrating look and a typical poker-face.
Long, deep silver blue fur like a Norwegian Forest Cat. He is ‘reverse-silver’, meaning his hairs are dark gray at the base and light silver at the tip. Sideward falling cheek fur and a quite full, fluffy beard. Full mane with long standing tufts in the neck. Longer hair on the connective piece of skin between the front- and hind limbs. Long fluffy tail and very small lynx-tips.
Jewelry
Necklace with inverted cross and pentagram on it. A Black leather bracelet and a simple chain-bracelet. All are old Sætansen relics.
PERSONALITY & CHARACTER
Personality and mannerisms:
MBTI type: ISTJ
Neat, polite, well-mannered and sometimes a bit absent minded and appearing disinterested. Other siderians might perceive him as boring and brain-dead. He is not talkative uses as few words as possible, which some might find rude and ‘cold’.
He seems to care about nothing and nobody, but is quite devoted to his territory defense and the work he considers important. He’s quite tolerant and careless about other’s business and is not easily bothered. But once one crosses a line and makes him seriously angry, he hits very hard. When necessary he protects his land, his mate and his cubs with his life.
He is mainly solitary and independent but is sometimes patrolling together with his brother Axel. He is quite vain and has quite some pride, although he doesn’t show it off. Overall, he comes across as cold and distant, even towards his own mate and kids. However, in some rare cases, he shows his hidden playful and mildly sarcastic side. He does like it to snuggle up against his mate once in a while and he doesn’t mind his cubs climbing onto him.
Type of humor: Mild sarcasm in a very ‘dry’ way where you wouldn’t expect it.
Voice, manner of speaking
Clear, rather high voice. Like the clear voice in the earlier songs of Dimmu Borgir.
His voice sounds quite a bit like Manny in Ice Age.
Dimmu Borgir- Burn in Hell: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRSsxU… – particularly between 3.40 –until the end.
Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse www.youtube.com/watch?v=08OaE9… (between 2.16-2.50)
Dimmu Borgir – Kings of the Carnival Creation (live) www.youtube.com/watch?v=evwYrh… between 4.45 – 5.25)
Sexuality: heterosexual
Spirituality and philosophy: loosely spiritual and sees a strong power in the raw forces of Nature and Life. He feels a strong spiritual connection his homeland and his Sætansen ancestors but he doesn’t float with his head in the spiritual realm. He is mostly down-to-earth and focusses on Earthly business.
His philosophy is that living beings should always stay true to their deepest nature.
Fears: his family land being taken over by intruders.
Dreams: just to live without having to fight off neighbors and humans all the time.
Interests: Overall, he likes exploring all corners of the family land in detail and study some natural phenomena that catch his interest (weather, rock formations, snow- and ice formations). He also has quite an interest in his family history and the functioning of ecals. He may appear rather boring, but his interest is quickly caught by all kinds of random topics.
Hobbies and occupation He was mostly occupied with patrolling and defending the family territory. He also did all kinds of tasks for his father like bringing ecal resources or other things from MistFjord – so that means he had to deal- and trade quite a bit with other siderians. His father has also motivated him to study the increasing human population near MistFjord and assess the potential danger.
If he was not patrolling or working for his father, he spent his time just wandering around sometimes studying natural phenomena – or later, he went to his mate and kids. Otherwise, he spent his time on Intellithos (a sort of ecal-based siderian version of internet) and searched information about all kinds of random topics that had caught his interest.

Special skills: He has quite some good trading skills.
STORY
On silent lands
When Morten thought of his childhood, he mostly remembered his mother and brother. There were no other family members on the land. He rarely saw his crazy, always-occupied mad scientist father and had no grandparents. His mother Alva told him the dark stories about his absent grandparents already when he was a cub. He had been rather fascinated about the stories and had never been impressed by his father’s dark deeds. However, he had still many questions that he never asked and kept inside, just silently wondering. Alva raised him and his brother with strict discipline and decency and she managed to keep her cubs out of their father’s dangerous business. Since there were no other family members present, Morten developed a strong, lifelong bond with his brother.
A growing fascination
He was quite homebound and during his adolescent years, he got a growing interest in the Sætansen Fortress and the rich history of his absent ancestors. He came more in contact with his father and be began to see the importance of territory defense. He got so devoted to it, that he did everything that his father wanted. That included studying the increasing human population around the nearest metacluster MistFjord and investigating the neighboring, rivalling siderian territories. He was still silently fascinated by the history and used some of his spare time to learn more about this. Rarely, did he share this fascination with anyone – only his brother got a touch of it.
A new generation
On his regular tours to MistFjord to trade ecal resources for his father, he met a sideress named Mara. She had a crush on him but initially, he wasn’t very interested. She wasn’t exactly his type but with her persistent flirting, he eventually grew quite fond of her. She satisfied him well and she had already sort of claimed him as her mate. He began to like her bold stickiness and invited her on the Sætansen lands. Soon, she got pregnant of their first cub. When their son Goran was born, he paused most of his patrolling- and trading work and focused on raising their son. Morten did his duties as a father but he hadn’t much of a clue about how to be a nice and playful dad and he remained rather cold and distant– although he sometimes let little Goran play with his tail and climb on his back.
Only a year later, Mara gave birth to a daughter (Stígana, also known as Tiga). As Tiga grew up, he became quite fond of her gentle and yet boldly curious personality. When the cubs were old enough to join the learning ground (as sort of open play-ground/school in the metacluster where cubs play and learn under adult supervision), he resumed most of his usual activities and left Mara mostly in charge for watching over their kids.
Loss and new life
However, when Tiga suddenly died in a snare trap, he found the loss difficult to deal with. It hit him a lot harder than he expected and he found it difficult to deal with the additional sorrow and stress of his mate. He wanted to process this loss in silence and disappeared for a while, leaving Mara alone in destress. Mara was actually pregnant of a third cub, Stian, and gave birth alone. He had heard of Stian’s birth but didn’t feel able to meet Mara’s turbulent emotions again. In a reaction to that, he closed himself off completely and avoided thinking about his mate and kids altogether. However, as time passed, guilt for having abandoned his family was nagging him and he returned more often as Stian grew up. When Stian was a few years old, he was back to normal but Mara had a difficult time forgiving him. Eventually, with the help of Alva, she did.
A difficult son
Stian was an adventurous and confident cub and they let him explore on his own as much as he wanted. However, when Stian was 7 years old, he suddenly disappeared. Matthias’ genius ecal-technology had located Stian among humans and Morten was determined to get his son out of their grip. He risked his life in doing so. Stian was in such a bad condition that he brought him to a healer at once, even before going home. Stian was still so stressed that Morten had to force him to get help, which had harmed his son’s trust in him for the years to come. As Stian grew up, the relation between Morten and Stian remained cold and distant but Morten had invested a lot more time in teaching his sons some essential defense and fighting techniques.
Over the years, the tension with the rivalling neighboring siderians (the Nivallis family) increased as the human threat became more serious. Once they suddenly invaded the Sætansen lands and they accused Morten of having murdered one of them. He denied all accusations and a fierce fight broke out. Together with his brother Axel, he fought the intruders off. Later, he discovered that Stian (who was now around 20) had suddenly disappeared around the same time as one of the Nivallis had been killed. Morten had the suspicion that Stian had something to do with these conflicts but there was nothing he could do. Stian was unfindable.
Threats from humans
Years passed by without having heard anything of his son. He was worried but also angry about the trouble that Stian may have caused. Here and there, he picked up signs of life, mostly from his other son Goran and his niece Yava, who had been actively searching for Stian. Meanwhile he focused mostly on the actual problems with neighbours and humans. The relation with Mara had improved again and they spend more time patrolling and working together. When his brother’s mate Malta got shot by humans, the problem came dangerously close. She survived but only now, his father Matthias came out of his Fortress and took some rigorous measures. He even bargained with the Nivallis family about how to tackle the human-threats, since more siderians had been shot lately.
Stian’s return
When Morten heard from Yava that Goran had located Stian, somewhere far away and that he was alive and seemingly all right, he felt a wave of relief. Yava left as well to meet Stian and a few years later, both Yava, Goran and Stian returned to their homelands. Morten hadn’t seen his son for 18 years now. Initially he wanted to confront him about the trouble that he had probably caused with the neighbours, but when he saw Stian again, now strong and fully grown, he was so impressed that he changed his mind. Stian had changed a lot; he had become ice-cold and was obsessed with getting rid of humans. Morten suspected that human-caused suffering had been the cause of Stian’s hatred.
Joining the Fjordland Force
Soon after Stian’s return, he began to build up a fighting group of siderians in order to get rid of the humans that had invaded the Fjordlands. This Force was a success and it had been growing fast in size and power. Morten had seen threats from humans himself and he gave Stian his full support. Also his mate Mara, his brother Axel and his father Matthias joined. Morten got a leading role in the Force and he sensed Stian’s mutual respect, despite their still cold relation. He fought alongside his son in the first years after the Force was established. The missions were dangerous in this early phase, since they were still low in numbers and had not yet worked out all strategies.
A failed mission
On one of the missions in a bigger human town, something went wrong and the siderians got revealed. Chaos broke out as humans began to shoot around. Morten got hit by something that went through his armor. He was badly injured and nearly fell off a building. He managed to hold onto something but was too wounded to climb up himself. In all the panic, he was left behind and felt that his end was drawing near. To his great surprise, Stian appeared and pulled him up. Stian had returned and risked his life to save Morten. He could hardly walk himself and leaned on his son as they tried to escape from the raging chaos. Once brought in safety, the healers treated him well and they patched up the worst injuries.
No cure
However, he never fully recovered but resumed some of the activities despite his fragile state. His immune system was still weakened and two years later, his health fell further back. He was constantly nauseous and no longer able to join the missions. Together with Mara, he headed back to his homeland; the Sætansen lands. The symptoms got worse and he was feeling seriously ill but no-one knew what he had. He was constantly in pain and had rapidly lost weight. With all the remaining strength that he had, he went to MistFjord to meet specialist healers. But no one could cure him and nothing brought any improvement. After nearly a year of sickness, he was getting desperate and willing to try every possible treatment, but whatever the healers tried, he only got worse and worse. In the last phase, he was only skin and bone and was hardly able to walk anymore. He felt that the end was coming and Mara stayed closely with him all the time. Even his brother and sons took a break from the missions and payed him a visit, which he knew, was a last goodbye. With Mara at his side, he slowly passed away.

Well I do not even consider my dogs as a pet in the way most people see pets. She has her own personality, so I treat her as a person. Not like a human of course.

Huh, but why do you wish to 'have' a siderian cub then? But yeah I don't see 'pets' just as pets either. To me they mean as much as a human can mean. The loss of Jayto- my soulmate- made more impact on me that the loss of my grandparents for example. I don't see any difference between humans and other animals in general- as we are animals ourselves. Moreover, recent research results point out that are our cognitive abilities aren't so exceptional compared to other species as we used to think and especially want to believe .

Because I like beautiful company. Well I'd like a mature being probably more, but I think a grown up siderian would not see a human fit to accompany him.
Since I have grown up close to animals and always been outside, enjoying nature, I never thought humans to be that special. But I was educated to keep my mouth shut to avoid useless discussions, because there was "prove" that no animal would be like man. Well, there was prove that earth is flat and the sun is turning around it (after it turned itself into a globe (accidently?)).
I read about that new studies and I appreciate the dogma of humans being extraordinary is possibly about to fall. Unfortunately, looking into the politics around the globe, mankind is probably rather falling back into the middle ages.
I just had a discussion about education of dogs. And it gives me the creeps to see how little confidence they have in the abilities of their animals. I certainly have a way with animals like dogs, cats, horses and such, but they do not even beliefe things can be done, even if I tell them I do, because my critters understand. It's a shame how many people overestimate theirselves and underestimate the beings in their surrounding.
Well, actually I'd possibly like try to "tame" a siderian. Not taming by the means of making it dumb and hazardous-free, but in terms to build up communication and understanding. Like I do with Wolves, or foreign horses, or any other being free and open enough to be able to listen to me and give something back. That's possibly why I mostly chose the shy and skittish animals out of a litter, because they give you much credit for giving them the time they need instead of petting them straight on the head.
I can imagine your loss. I must admit that I got a little hardy lately, because I had to bury 8 dogs in the last 8 years. But every tear I shed, reminds of the place they have in my heart, from the time they came to me to the time I die. Probably longer, don't no for sure by now.

However, as it comes to fur and bodybuild, Stian has more in common with his mother (she also has airplane ears).Morten's ear-shape is something between Alva and Matthias XD Ha and yeah, those impressive frontlegs are something that also inherits from Alva to Morten, to Stian, to Jay.
