I never thought of it that way. Interesting point.
Maybe Samus just disappears into the air and reappears at her last save point, almost like she downloaded her progress at the save point. Well, that's the way I see it. A little less depressing that way!

I love the bits of Samus's armor, the colors and shading on her body, and the shining outline that you put around her body. The pose and anatomy for Samus are awesome.
Nice background! The stars, the dark blues and purples of outer space and its cosmic dust, and the planet and its lit atmosphere give the whole picture a "science-fiction" feeling.

Yeah, everyone is used to seeing Samus in her Zero Suit when she loses her armor. But, the Zero Suit first appeared in 2004 in Metroid: Zero Mission. It can be seen in the "Game Over" scene from Metroid: Zero Mission.
Back in Super Metroid from 1994, when the "Game Over" scene occurs, you can see Samus wearing the exact same lingerie that is pictured here. It actually was Nintendo's intention for her to wear this lingerie. Check out the official "Game Over" sprite ([link] ) (3rd row, rightmost 2 sprites, zoom in with a picture viewer) and video ([link] ) (watch 0:20-0:40) from Super Metroid.
I agree, Samus is much more attractive in her lingerie here and in the Metroid Fusion "Game Over" and ending outfit compared to the Zero Suit.

Although usually in space, decompression results in an immediate explosion from within the body due to differences in pressure.... but that's the fault of the creators.
